About Me
CHIWAWA's core is Laurie Gordon and Krassy Halatchev, claiming refugee status moons ago - a Bulgarian Hungarian combo living in Montreal, Canada.
CHIWAWA plays bass, vox, guitars, synths, drums and percussion... The band's forte is heavy grooves and visceral melodies.
On stage, CHIWAWA electrifies as two and sometimes multiply into four or more bodies dabbling with electronic knobs, a drum kit, or solo violin.
CHIWAWA has worked with the inimitable Steve Whitfield, garage king Mikey Benn...
Currently the band is busy creating soundtracks for film and television and recording and producing songs for its new album "Bus Stop Chinese Buffet", set for release in early 2009. It is scheduled to follow "Spare Change" world premiere - Ryan Larkin's final animation film featuring the CHIWAWA single "Do It For Me".
MusiVision and the NFB are the producers of Spare Change, which is based on inspirations by the late Ryan Larkin who lived with CHIWAWA in the last years of his life. He is considered "the Frank Zappa of animation".
A feature documentary film is also in production with a major Canadian television network.
CHIWAWA's music is featured in both films.
