Weekend Playlist 02.17.12

As winter is usually a time for lethargy and music that matches the mood, we've still been itching to break free from the atmosphere and go for something a little harder. Thankfully, that happened (big time) this week. Check out our weekend playlist for the subway grime rock of K-Holes, Hunters' snotty howl, WhoMadeWho making us dream of '03 and much more.

Another week down, and what happened? Well, Jeremy Lin made us believe in magic, it finally snowed for like 4 minutes in New York and we dished-out all sorts of awesome music. From the jangly beauty of Beach Fossils to the dreamy pop of Memoryhouse and the throwback R&B of Nick Waterhouse and the neo-L.A. beat-heavy crooning of First Person Shootr, there's certainly something to discover in our weekend playlist.

Given the bitter cold outside, it might be tempting to curl-up under the covers and sleep the weekend away in the midst of guaranteed warmth. Forget that, though. We're taking Rusko's lead above and jumping off a parked car to show, yes, we are alive and have the power to do what we want. We're also going to dive even further into new music like Cate Le Bon's late-night lilt, the chamber stylings of Oberhofer, a Florence And The Machine remix and a muted hip-hop cut from Dice Raw. Check out our weekend playlist for all of the above and more. Covers be damned.

Review a great week in new music with entries from some of our favorite artists. In addition to Jay-Z using his new baby girl Blue Ivy Carter for a father-daughter rap song that made us privately cry in the bathroom, we had excellent new efforts from Vivian Girls side projects La Sera and The Babies, a remix of the ever-controversial Lana Del Rey, a new spin on CREEP and so much more.

Back in action, we spent the week turning over rocks and chiseling our way through the mountainside of new music in 2012. While there's not a ton yet, we certainly made some excellent discoveries in the form of Frankie Rose's '60s-meets-'80s pop, another great set of remixes for Little Dragon and Mayer Hawthorne and a fantastic entry from the icy world of Active Child. Grab that Ross mixtape, see what we anticipate and we'll check you next week!
