Midnight Juggernauts Exclusive Galactic Downloadsss

Yeah I know, the big news of the day is that Rihanna has puffy nipples. We definitely can't compete. But we can try for the next best thing by giving you some new tracks. The Juggers have a new single out in a few, Into The Galaxy, and they've asked cool French kid Danger and next big things Chateau Marmont to reframe the holy alliance of dark disco energy, half-falsetto, half-goth vocals and synth curlicues that makes the original such a great song. There's also a disarmingly elegant Metronomy remix on the vinyl we're putting out.

Danger delivers a too-cool-for-school, hardcore-gamer mix, the aural equivalent of a hyperspeed powergloved romp through a deadly wireframe maze, at boss level.

Chateau Marmont are a Parisian quartet dedicated to make things all better. When I say "things", I mean life, obviously. It's only normal, then, that this remix is mandatory listening for fractured families, PMSing social workers, shell-shocked army troopers and waterboarded undercover operatives the world over. It's a universal translation of "All Will Be Well". Look out for their debut EP on Institubes this fall.

Kneel before Zod, and the new soundtrack to the latest Grand Theft Auto. It's the greatest soundtrack to anything since...the last Grand Theft Auto.  If you think these hyperbolic claims are unjustified, consider the fact that this soundtrack's lineup is better than this year's Coachella: Black Devil Disco Club, Kavinsky, Justice, Simian Mobile Disco, Femi Kuti, Roy Ayers, the Meters, Bad Brains, Black Sabbath, Heart, !!!, The Stooges, Buju Banton, Les Savy Fav, LCD Soundsystem, Whitey, Black Keys, UNKLE, The Rapture, Kanye West, Ghostface, Styles P, Nas, Gang Starr, Marley Marl, T La Rock, Aphex Twin, Philip Glass, Marvin Gaye, Bag Raiders and Goldfrapp are just a sampling of what you will be raping and pillaging to.

Check the full 214-track ridiculousness here.

Here's a brief look into the process of assembling this madness, including sending out license requests for over 2000 songs before settling on the final 214 (50 Cent wanted to throw a song their way but didn't make the cut).  Rockstar games, indeed.

Games: Can videogames save the music business?

It is official, music games kick ass.  Not only do gamers like to have their faces melted by “classic” rock riffs, but stuffy corporate types are licking their lips over their investment in kids’ desire to rock out.  In October, Guitar Hero III: Legend of Rock sold 1.4 Million units in 6 days.  For music industry vets, this may sound paltry compared to the halcyon days of 1 million first day CD sales, but each unit comes with the game and a Les Paul model guitar controller for around $80.  We’re no mathletes but that is a ton of cake for a glorified air guitar simulator.  Columbia House used to shake that out of us after giving away 12 cds and 5 years of crappy direct mail to do it!

What does this mean for music industry?  Well with the release of Rock Band over Thanksgiving (the PS2 version comes out Dec 18), the stakes got a lot bigger as the game sold out in a matter of days.  While actual sales numbers for November have not been reported, it is nearly guaranteed that the $170 kit (game/drums/guitar/mic) will show that the music genre has established itself as a mainstay in the videogame market for years to come.  Dee Snyder may not have understood the movement he started when he wrote “I Wanna Rock” but it is indisputable that millions of us nerds heeded the call and are ready for more.  Need proof?  Check the clip:
