VIDEO: Tck Tck Tck Campaign - Beds Are Burning

We're gonna pause the free music for a second to highlight this video, a re-written version of Midnight Oil's "Beds Are Burning" specially recorded for the Kofi Anan-led Tck Tck Tck Campaign, which is fighting to demand climate justice from world leaders at December's UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen. Climate change is, quite obviously, one of our world's most critical problems, and this collaboration is to serve as a musical petition to world leaders to act on the issue. The song features RCRD LBL friends and fam Theophilus London, Freeland, Amadou & Mariam, Dan Black, Mark Ronson, Miike Snow, and more, and is available for free from the organization's website, where each download will be considered a petition signature. Not a whole lot of effort to help a very worthy cause.

Mark Ronson - Just (The Loving Hand Remix)

Amadou & Mariam's - Sabali (Paul Epworth Remix)

Freeland - Under Control (Alex Metric Remix)

Freeland - Burn The Clock

Dan Black - Symphonies (Passion Pit Remix)

Miike Snow - Black & Blue (Tiga Remix)

Miike Snow vs. Peter Bjorn & John - It Don't Move Me

Miike Snow - Animal

Miike Snow - Animal (Treasure Fingers Remix)

Miike Snow - Animal (Crookers Remix)

Miike Snow - Animal (Punks Jump Up Remix)

Miike Snow - Burial

JOKE "Pret Pour L'Argent"

Meet JOKE.

A 19 y.o. rapper from the sunny and studious city of Montpellier.
Discovered last year by Tekitek, he was, well, 18, and only had a couple of freestyles on his myspace page.

After a fistful of well-noticed appearances on the first three STUNTS releases, here's his first street album, titled "PRET POUR L'ARGENT" ("Ready for Money"). Produced by Orgasmic, and a whole new wave of promising french producers.

15 tracks, plus some freestyles, featuring some well-known names in French indie rap: Cuiziner, Craiz, Charly Greane, Tekitek...
The CD might be hard to find outside France, but you can buy it on iTunes .

Before I remind you the way to the Stunts blog, here's the video for "Marty & The Hit Factory", shot in two hours, and delivered to us two days later:

So, the blog:

http://stunts.tumblr.com

A couple of songs from Joke for you to download, all the links you'll need to order the CD, and freebies from the whole STUNTS gang.
It's mostly a francophone place, but it's really time you learn the language, my friends.

-Emile.

VIDEO: Faunts - Feel.Love.Thinking.Of

Like a bad dream, a bad date or a bad trip – sometimes a music video clashes with the positive aural and visual associations that you had previously envisioned for the song so badly that it bursts your sensory bubble and you can never view the song the same way again.

Thankfully, this brand-new Faunts video does the exact opposite. Like a good dream, a good date or a good trip, the video matches the aesthetics and narrative of Feel.Love.Thinking.Of so seamlessly that you get romanced by the song all over again. Directed by Ryan Bosworth, the video tells a love story that's not too cloying cute (after all it takes place in a psych ward). Plus, the dude in the video is Clark Gable’s grandson. Doesn't get much better than this.

Faunts - M4 (Part II) (The Paronomasiac Remix)

Faunts - Memories of Places We've Never Been (T.H. White Remix)

VIDEO: The Love Language - Sparxxx

The Love Language has a breezy, hazy, lo-fi quality that's steadily addictive. Just a month or so ago, we first posted the jaunty surfpop jam "Lalita," which hooked us so bad that we decided to stream the whole album on RCRD LBL (see below), which in turn provoked us to find anything and everything else we could on this band. Hence this video "Sparxxx." Aesthetically gritty, the homespun video looks like it was shot on 35 mm film using a second-hand Super 8 Elmo or something else as beautifully ghetto. It includes a party scene with bubbles, Stu McLamb belting on a 1960's Elvis/Rocakbilly mic, brown-bagged 40s, and a cake fight. Need we say more?

*PS the streams below will only be up till the end of the week, so make the most of em.

VIDEO THRWBCK: Telepathe - So Fine

I picked this Telepathe song as today's video thrwbck because I was supposed to see Telepathe a couple nights ago and missed it. Because I've always wanted to roast marshmallows over a candle. Because a bodega-bought bacchanal with tangerines, peppermints, and cheap champagne sounds perfect right now, even though it's breakfast time. Because I've always secretly or not so secretly craved wearing a blond wig and orchestrating a dance session in a damp, dark alley illuminated by headlights. Because Busy and Melissa have the no-frills, delicately defiant allure that is every boy-turned-graphic-designer-in-Williamsburg's wet dream. Because I don't mind this song being in my head for the next 10 hours or so.

EXCLUSIVE NEW VIDEO: Hearts of Palm UK - I Flow

This new video by the new wave-esque, electro-pop girl band, Hearts of Palm UK, was shot in LA by photog/artist Ian Broyles and set on various green screen backdrops - giving it a DIY film-school feel that is comical and appropriately 80's-esque. We are guessing the pyramids, moon and other significant mystical symbols has something to do with Erica Elektra, the heavily-tatted keyboard player who writes the songs; word is she's an astrology expert and "resident mystic."

PS: The song from I Flow EP (see below) is the first of SIX EP's coming from Hearts of Palm UK's debut album For Life.

Sounds Like:  School of Seven BellsA-Ha (Think "Take On Me"), Goldfrapp, Camera Obscura

EXCLUSIVE NEW VIDEO: Felix Da Housecat - Kick Drum

Special delivery: We're debuting the illustrious, legendary DJ Felix Da Housecat's newest video, "Kick Drum" exclusively here on RCRD LBL. It's home-made courtesy of Felix - and includes a little intro to his fans in the beginning. It's the perfect accompaniment to "Kick Drum," that's got mad hypnotic vocals, prominent house kick drum percussion (big surprise), and sexed-up, thumping bass. Need I remind you, Felix is set to blow up the dance tent at Coachella as well this year?

VIDEO THRWBCK: Black Lips - Veni Vidi Vici

Let's reminisce the things we dig about this video: lax, sexy, lazy beats juxtaposed with lyrics about religious war, blatant DIY effects shot on a super 8 camera bought on the cheap, dizzying sepia cut away vignettes, cemeteries, Atlanta graffiti, red roses, and motel mirrors. Plus, let us not forget the fun fact that director Edward Tegethoff was in a punk band (called Freedom Puff) in which he used to eat live crickets on stage. (If anyone ever saw Freedom Puff perform, do speak up). When The Black Lips' lead singer/guitarist Cole Alexander was asked by Vice what he meant to portray in the video, he said : "To make a pop culture observation of the ruffled feathers of the trifilin asses of the religious extreme." Pretty much sums but why were are psyched to see The Black Lips play (read: possibly vomit, kiss, start pyrotechnic warfare, or urinate) on stage this Monday, March 9th, at Bowery Ballroom in NYC.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Restiform Bodies - Black Friday

This video is dope. Directed by N.O. Bonzo, it echos some of the global economic insecurities, through animated little suited men whose heads are blown off and replaced with sea anemone-like strings (evidently that's what a restiform body is...). Meanwhile, little animated TVs, which multiply like rabbits, are juxtaposed with frenetic time-lapsed fuzzy clips of city streets (I'm thinking Oakland?) The track, appropriately called "Black Friday" is by Bay Area's electro hip hop outfit, Restiform Bodies (David Bryant-vocalist and song writer, Matt Valerio- percussionist and beat-maker & George Chadwick-synth, sample and effects slayer). Sound intense? It's actually quite hypnotic.

Sounds Like: Alias, Why?
