It’s going down tonight at the legendary Fillmore in SF!
I’m excited because I get the opportunity to rock with the Pharcyde - all four of them!
Its crazy because this group has achieved what many groups only aspire to… crafting a hip-hop “standard”. For real though, this song is on “Happy Birthday” status (and I’m not talking about the Birfday Song…).
What up! It’s been a minute, but yes, I still made it!
Allow me to reintroduce myself… my name is Trackademicks! Yes, your favorite cyberhood Honor Roller. Today’s update comes via Twitter (Read from the bottom up).
Be sure to order your copy from Turntable Lab Today!
Despite a personal pet peeve against bands with people names (Why they make it hard on themselves? Hello, Chester French!) I’ve always rooted for Tanya Morgan ever since hearing their track “Pretty,” a charming lil number built on warbled BBD lyrics and a random Roy Orbison loop, sounding exactly like three friends hanging out and making music for no other reason than the fact that it’s fun to hang out with your friends and make music. Sound familiar?
They’re back this week with a new record called Brooklynatti - they’ve stepped up their production values (and promohustle) but the vibe remains the same. As a bonus beat, they’ve also leaked “What We Do,” a collaboration with FG’s own Trackademicks, and you can download it for free at the Upper Playground blog.
Trackademicks’ DJ Tap.10 is the latest member of the fam to drop a mix on Nicky Digital’s Pre Party Jamz series, it’s filled with “tender knock” of all stripes, from Dam Funk to Sade to Aeroplane to Track’s own “Topsidin” so go download it this second! More FG x PPJ mixes here.
In other news from the Honor Roll crew, you can check Tap and 1.Oak playing with Mistah FAB and Curren$y at 330 Ritch on May 13th, grab some exclusive mp3s and video from Mike Baker The Bike Maker at Fresh Selects, download Spank Pops’ latest mixtapes at his Myspace, and listen to Trackademicks on this new Amp Live single “Gary Is A Robot” (he’s also hosting the Infatuation party at Vessel tonight with FG DJ guests Jokers Of The Scene). New joints are on deck from Miss Josie Stingray as well, meanwhile she’s dropping knowledge on swine flu, Asher Roth and much more all over her Twitter.
Speaking of Twitter, if you’ve been keeping up with our own, you already know that vinyl for Trackademicks’ “Enjoy What You Do / Topsidin” single is finally here and on its way to stores. Yee!
This Saturday (4.25) the 4OneFunk party hits the Elbo Room in SF, featuring a special performance by Trackademicks (with DJ Tap.10 and 10a.k. of Honor Roll) along with a bunch of other folks including DJ B.Cause, who’s promising a “special Roger Troutman Tribute Set” to which we can only say: YESSSS!
Check out 1O.a.k., Trackademicks and Tap.10 at Farenheit Ultra Lounge in San Jose tonight - it’s 1O.a.k.’s debut solo show (although you’ve seen him rocking on the mic - and on the lived drum pads! - with Trackademicks before) and the whole Honor Roll crew is sure to kill it. For more Track goodness, check out this free download of “Funky Hit Records,” which he produced with Lyrics Born for LB’s most recent album.
The Fool’s Gold After Dark showcase in Austin last week was insane in every possible way, from the turnout (line down the block and around the corner all night!) to the tunes, as the whole roster dropped stellar sets packed with new joints and dence detonators. Even when the sound unceremoniously got cut during Mehdi’s set due to arcane Austin liquor laws, he still managed to smash it! Kid Cudi came through and surprised us with a quick set, fans and well-wishers included everyone from Clinton Sparks and Steve “Buddy” Aoki to MCs like Curren$y, Mistah FAB and Izza Kizza, and an amazing time was had by all.
Thanks to everyone at Scion, Palm Door/Beauty Bar and Red Stripe for lending a hand, and thanks to all the shutterbugs who put their pics on Flickr to make this wrapup possible, Catch lost his camera while crowdsurfing shirtless later in the week (smoove….) but the FG Flip cam made it back alive with video.
If you have more pics or video from the night, send em in! Now hit the jump for the goods! See you next year AWWWWWWstin!
While we pick up the pieces from this past weekend in Austin, check out a cool little clip (spotted at ThisIs50.com ?!?!) featuring Trackademicks going in on 6th St with Zion I, U-N-I, Balance, Mistah FAB and Exile on the beatbox.
This Friday on The FADER’s “The Let Out” on East Village Radio, they had ATLien and Killer Mike associate Pill by to kick some rhymes, and whaddayaknow, one of the tracks he goes over just happens to be Trackademicks’ “Topsidin” instrumental from the “Enjoy What You Do / Topsidin” single (available here and everywhere else digital music is sold, vinyl on its way!) Sure, it’s a “freestyle” in the most literal sense, but as always it’s cool to hear other rappers on our stuff.
Elsewhere on the internet airwaves, you can listen to this extensive Trackademicks interview with Streets Is Talking Radio right here. “In the words of Mac Mall, this interview is full of ‘Nathan But Game,’” says Track. Grab it!
Check out flicks of last week’s release party for Trackademicks’ “Enjoy What You Do” single thanks to photo galleries from Suckafreeze, Stash Magazine and Vessel. A who’s who of Bay DJs were in the building, along with Mistah FAB, Lyrics Born and…CUPCAKIN!
Don’t forget to pick up that Track single if you haven’t already - it’s available now at iTunes and all other digital retailers, and vinyl is en route.
