today we're going to start what will be a (hopefully) weekly series where we've dug through our older stock to find something to share with you - perhaps to remind you of something you've loved and forgotten, perhaps to introduce you to something you never knew existed, and ideally to give you a little idea of who these artists are.

by the way, i know the "time WARP" thing is an awful play on words, but it's just too obvious to leave alone.

this week, we're going to feature a track from Richard H. Kirk that was featured on Artificial Intelligence II (WARP CD23), released in 1994.

Artificial Intelligence was a series of records (not just the compilations of the namesake) that featured artists who would later become major players in the electronic music world in a non-dance-fueled vein.  it was electronic music for listening - not for the club or rave scene.  artists featured in this series included Black Dog (Plaid), Polygon Window (Aphex Twin), Speedy J, and Autechre (new album available as mp3 on Bleep, physical release 3.4.08), among others.

Richard H. Kirk is well known for his work with the industrial band Cabaret Voltaire, but his solo works deserve just as much attention and consideration.  The Number of Magic(WARP 32) is a personal favorite of mine - one of those 'all killer, no filler' albums.

perhaps the most amazing thing about Richard H. Kirk is the astounding amount of musical ground he's covered under a slew of names.  this is a reasonably complete list of his pseudonyms:

Al Jabr, Anarchia, Biochemical Dread, Blacworld, Chemical Agent, Citrus, Cold Warrior, Dark Magus, Destructive Impact, Dr. Xavier, Electronic Eye, Extended Family, Frightgod, Future Cop Movies, International Organisation, King Of Kings, Multiple Transmission, Nine Miles Dub, Nitrogen, Orchestra Terrestrial, Outland Assassin, Papadoctrine, Port Au Prince, PSI Punky Dread Allstars, Reflexiv, The Revolutionary Army (Of The Infant Jesus), Robots + Humanoids, Sandoz, Signals Intelligence, The Silent Age, Trafficante, Ubermenschlich, Ubu Rahmen, Wicky Wacky and Vasco de Mento.

it is sufficient to say, these solo works under his name are just the tip of the iceberg.

today, we're featuring Reality Net, another brilliant track by a man who unarguably understands sound, atmosphere and pacing better than most ever will.

enjoy!
