EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Pocketknife - Get Around To It (feat. Joe Worricker) (Ray Burst Remix) (Arthur Russell Cover)

To be straight with you, I never thought I'd hear reinterpretations of the music Arthur Russell made - despite his entanglement in that world of disco edits and refixes, a lot of his music just seemed too personal and private for that. But it kind of makes sense if you think about it: if it seemed personal and private to me, then I suppose it must do for a lot of other people too. A lot of those other people - Faze Action singer Mary Moore, My Tiger My Timing and New Young Pony Club's Andy Spence among them - have banded together under the name Killer Whale to offer their own takes on some of Arthur's most seminal cuts. Here, it's the turn of Brooklyn's Pocketknife to chance his arm - along with new Rough Trade singer Joe Worricker and fellow Londoner Ray Burst. Personally, I think it works great - what do you think? Snap up the wax over at Juno or head along to the Killer Whale album launch party at London's Relentless Garage (November 27) to make your feelings known.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Erik Hassle - Hurtful (Zombie Disco Squad Remix)
.jpg)
You know when someone's driving and you can just tell from the car's body language that they're driving angry? Zombie Disco Squad's remix of Erik Hassle's "Hurtful" is dance with that determined, sore edge to it that always seems to come thumping out from an angry car, windows rattling in their frames, wheels spinning. We should probably mention at this stage that Hassle is a Swedish pop star and as such is very unlikely to ever grow angry with anything, at all, ever, but who knows? Boy certainly hasn't seemed to notice his hair's on fire yet. Mop looks like Fozzy Bear's bathplug.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Simian Mobile Disco - Audacity Of Huge (Dekker & Johan Remix)

It feels like an age since Simian Mobile Disco last released anything, so it seems strange that they should return with something that sounds very much like Dead Or Alive's "You Spin Me Round". It's strange - but my god it's ballsy, so it's for us to wag our fingers at SMD, and remixers here Dekker & Johan, and tell them that we "like their style" in the manner of one of those corporate bosses that only exist to give arseholes roles in films from the Eighties. There's something of that decade's infamous excess here; Yeasayer's Chris Keating providing vocals that demand love in return for money, bleeps devising a similarly psychotic and possessive plan for clubland ears.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Voodeux - Bones

Evidently, the Dirtybird/Mothership DEMF party was another one for the books, due in large part to the live debut of doomy tech-house duo Voodeux. Their new, and first, LP for Mothership–The Paranormal–is out digitally June 10th and physically July 14th, already notching some nice nods from RA and XLR8R. "Bones" is one of the record's quakier moments, a precision-spliced collision of dungeon rumble and high frequency gashes. Grab the MP3 below and hit the jump for a short clip of their performance from the D.

DOWNLOAD: Orgasmic - The Sixpack Anthem (Harvard Bass Remix)

Earlier this week we dropped a mix of Orgasmic's "The Sixpack Anthem" from our boys at Institubes, and now they've shot over another version of the tune (written as tribute to the French clothing and design company, not the beer unit) from San Diego house producer Harvard Bass. Tekitek aka Teki Latex aka the dude who voices the original wrote up his thoughts on the Dago's new up-and-comer, so head to the always-entertaining Institubes blog to read that, and grab HB's clean, tech-ish reworking below. You stay classy, San Diego.
