This time of year, Nor Cal is sunny, bench-warmed and breezy. There's a dog parade in every park, couples drinking soy chai on each corner, hippies barefoot, and a shocking amount of smiling homeless men (or something like that, per this New Yorker’s week-long Noise Pop observation). In this climate, the 1950’s inspired surf pop of the commune-living band The Botticellis blends right in. From their May release, Old Home Movies, “Up Against the Glass” kicks off with an easy guitar hook, before blitzing out into head-bobbing sock-hop pop. Singer Alexi Glickman’s voice in the title song "Old Home Movies" is debonair and poised, like a modern age Bobby Darin or Buddy Holly. It’s an easy and harmless prelude to spring.
