PREMIERE: Heidecker & Wood - Right Or Wrong

And on the eighth day, God created Tim and Eric, and He said they shall have an awesome show, great job. But then bored the pair became with mere comedic pursuits, and Eric broke forth to direct such masterpieces as Major Lazer’s Pon De Floor, and Tim forged on to form Heidecker & Wood, the singer-songwriter act to which we are giving thanks today. And the heavens rained down, “Right Or Wrong”—a Jimmy-Buffet-meets-Doobie-Brothers smooth rock noodler, that will arrive once again on Starting From Nowhere come March 15. And He said it was good.

PREMIERE: Cocknbullkid - Cocknbullkid (Your Twenties Remix)

It feels like Anita 'Cocknbullkid' Blay has been silent a while now, but if this self-titled track's supposed to serve as a return the time out's been worth it: Your Twenties exaggerating the original's soft-rock tendencies until, bizarrely, the track begins to resemble Busta Rhymes' and Janet Jackson's "What's It Gonna Be?!" as covered by Fleetwood Mac. This is a good thing, as if you needed telling, and "Cocknbullkid" won't even make it onto Blay's forthcoming album, which should only serve to whet ears further.

EXCLUSIVE STREAM: Sally Shapiro - Jackie Junior (Junior Boys remix)

There are many things we love in this world, but more specifically, two of those things are Swedish Italo disco queen Sally Shapiro and Canadian bedroom rockers Junior Boys. So you can imagine our joy when the two are joined in matrimony under the sanctity of music: meaning that we have an exclusive stream of the Junior Boys remix of “Jackie Junior”, which is in turn a version of “Jackie Jackie” a Sally song that we’ve played around the office decidedly to death for the past year, and still love it. What Junior Boys have done is take the Italo essence of the tune and infuse it with their own singular brand of laid-back soft electro. Needless to say, this is for the bedroom dancers.

This stream come courtesy of Paper Bag records, who (news break!) are about to officially join the RCRD LBL family as a partner label! It’s all coming soon, so consider this a taste of what’s to come. If you’re into Sally, she’s just about to kick off her DJ tour with a date tonight at the Plug Awards, and tomorrow at the Mercury Lounge. Check out her MySpace for more info!

FEATURED: Yacht Rock at the SEEN RCRD LBL blog

If you’ve never gotten into the Channel 101 cult mockumentary series Yacht Rock, consider this your chance—they’ve just released their much-anticipated Episode 11, and the guys at the SEEN RCRD LBL blog are all about it. In a nutshell, Yacht Rock is a fake VH1-style soft rock history program hosted by a bespectacled music nerd named Hollywood Steve. In fictionalizing relationships and rivalries between artists such as Hall & Oates, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins and Toto, Yacht Rock takes the viewer back to a time when men were men, beards were really important, and no human could overcome the power of a really smooth groove. It’s definitely the greatest musical satire since This Is Spinal Tap, and we’ve obsessively watched every episode at least five times. At a recent screening of the series at the Knitting Factory in NY (where Episode 11 was premiered!) we kind of scared ourselves with our ability to recite aloud every line. We posted #11 above, and also check out or favorite episode of the series below: #4, or Toto's "Rosanna"

We've had a soft spot for bands like The Eagles, Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers for some time now, so when we came across the Yacht Rock video series a while back it pretty much blew our mind. Yacht Rock is a series of videos conceived by J. D. Ryznar that spoof the writing process of some of the greatest soft rock hits of the 70s and 80s. The videos feature appearances by characters like Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Steve Porcaro of Toto, and Walter Becker and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan just to name a few.

There are now 11 episodes in the series with stories about Toto working with Michael Jackson on "Right Here", Steely Dan competing with The Eagles to write the title track for the movie FM, how it took 10 years and a rap group to take Michael McDonald's "Keep Forgetting" to #2 on the chart.  The latest installment, and possibly our favorite, documents the great lengths Jimmy Buffet went through to get Kenny Loggins to write a song for Footloose (with Jason Lee playing Kevin Bacon).

Check it out above, and click here for another amazing episode. Check out their site over at Channel 101 where the whole series is available for download to your iPhone.

FEATURED: Tigercity

We haven't come across a band like Tigercity in a long time--a band that's so into their own universe and aesthetic they end up sounding like an amazing version of like, soft rock heroes Hall & Oates and Maroon 5 (don't hate, you know that sounds like the best combo ever) with absolutely no regards to trend or hype. This band's music is totally adult contemporary made by twentysomethings from Brooklyn, and the most incredible part is it's not annoying. On the contrary, it's the perfect sort of party music, deep funk grooves and falsetto vocals, with more soul than most bands have in their guitar picks. Lines Through Lines thinks the same and has featured Tigercity's debut EP Pretend Not to Love in their top music of 2007 list. Check it out, and prepare to be blown away.
