Christopher Laufman's earlier records (earlier! He's been on MySpace for less than 4 minutes) were weirdo, mechanoid things that took their swagger from hip-hop, their croon from R&B and their sweat from glorious, tumbling Tropicalia chimes. Here, Laufman wriggles free of those styles and any other clingy category in love-stained leopard-print leggings: "Solo (4 Claire)" owing much to the amorous advances of T-Rex. Slipping through the decades as easily as he slips from the clutches of genre, people have said his Wise Blood project sounds like the future. I'm not sure it does—it sounds like a future, certainly, though not one boring people are going to inhabit any time soon. If you're not boring, you might wanna pick up Wise Blood's new 7-inch, out through London's Transparent in November.
