This remix of Dave I.D.'s "The Takeover" is about so much more than just the most evil reggaeton you've ever heard. Oh wait.. that's enough? OK, so apparently that's enough. Well done, Maria And The Mirrors, happy Friday everyone!

PREMIERE: MC Zulu - Call Red Alert (prod. Poirier)

After listening to “Call Red Alert,” we really think MC Zulu and Poirier should start a riddim collective called Tha Supa Socas. To show we’re serious, we’re going on a one-man mission (inspired by the pic above) to #occupydancehalls, and get low to this blaring, staccato, hype jubilation until the world’s floors are soaked in sweat and social change. Check Electro Track Therapy for more, which has dance tracks in styles ranging from garage to kuduro to juke and drops-ins by Chrissy Murderbot, Kush Arora and more.

Oakland by way of Panama duo Los Rakas have been said to be on the sole mission of bringing reggaeton back to its roots—which is Panamanian reggae sung in Spanish. "Hierba" has a slinky love song vibe, and it is, in a way. It rides like smoothed out ode to kicking it easy, breezy with your lady, but it is actually a tribute to herbal imbibing. Their dedication to all things green mirrors hip-hop veterans Cypress Hill and this Saturday, the boys will be performing at Cypress Hill's Smoke Out Festival in San Bernadino, CA, sharing the stage Manu Chao, Erykah Badu and others. Get there early, because Los Rakas will hit the stage when the sun is at its highest.

Evidently, "Kalima Shop Titi" is about the priest in The Temple Of Doom that rips the dude's heart out with his bare hand. Since our Spanish is on the weak side, we have no idea what Boogat is actually saying over Poirier's beat, which sounds like industrial reggaeton, but hopefully it involves more talk about ripping dudes' hearts out because that is stuff we need to hear more about (in songs, not real life). It came out today on Argentinian label ZZK with refits from Uproot Andy, El Remolón, Douster, and this guy, Lagartijeando, who made everything sound dirtier and scrunched-up and veritably awesome. His version is the freebie, the rest are coppable over at the ZZK site.

Dancehall-grown, soca-shifting and riddim-runner Poirier just won’t let the party stop, will he? Low Ceiling is the final in a trio of Caribbean-cum-Detroit-techno EPs, leading up to his forthcoming album. Below, “Marathon” gets stabby—a percussive rinse of tropical acid blown straight into your cortex. It kind of hurts, in the way global bass should. The Running High LP drops on Ninja Tune this spring, and before then Poirier's got a slew of tour dates around the world, those after the jump.
