RCRD OF THE DAY: Manic Street Preachers - I'm Leaving You For Solitude

Weariness can sound alluring if it's earned. Who knew? Manic Street Preachers continue to gear up for the arrival of their tenth studio album, Postcards From A Young Man, by leaking this brand new non-album track. "I'm Leaving You For Solitude" sounds the work of sweat-chasing stalwarts, James Dean Bradfield's voice imbued with a maturity matched only by the hard-working thwack of Sean Moore's drums. The new album's out September 20.

RCRD OF THE DAY: The Drums - Down By The Water

The Drums take an unexpected left turn on “Down By The Water,” eschewing their affable, sunburnt pop for a ‘50s under-the-sea-themed prom ballad. Of course, it’s still great: twangy, water-logged, and full of sway. Use it as a catalyst to slow dance with a balloon nudged between you and your date, or to nab the band’s eponymous debut come September.

RCRD OF THE DAY: Chromeo - Don't Turn The Lights On (Christian Martin Remix)

Chromeo's Business Casual is already making nu-funkateeers sweat through their shirts, and it's not even out yet. Such is the fever pitch for this record. Chalk a large part of that up to first single "Don't Turn The Lights On," which, aside from being ridiculously catchy, has a great video that's been floating around. The wise minds at Turbo have in turn unloaded the single's remix release, with versions from Aeroplane, Noise Invaders, and dirtybird's Christian Martin. His drummy, sub-shattering house take is on offer here, the rest are all coppable over at Beatport.

RCRD OF THE DAY: Simian Mobile Disco - Nerve Salad

The sullen, anxious throb of "Nerve Salad" sounds like it was recorded in some dank chamber a world away from the one that knows Simian Mobile Disco as purveyors of prime time electro-house, but its enigmatic progress should keep ears locked until the streetlights flicker off. It's taken from the duo's new mix CD, Simian Mobile Disco Is Fixed, the first in a series of releases celebrating the Fixed parties in New York. It's out October 12.

RCRD OF THE DAY: Booka Shade - Teenage Spaceman (Booka In Space Mix)

If there's one thing that screams Booka Shade, it's an Olympian level of precision—never has anything by the German duo felt sloppy or out of place. Instead, they usually sound chiseled from space-grade alloy, razor-sharp and uncompromisingly futuristic, and this mix of new single "Teenage Spaceman" takes that approach to a marathon 10-plus minutes of dripping, hair-bending techno.

RCRD OF THE DAY: Zola Jesus - Sea Talk

Makes sense that Zola Jesus, aka LA's lone Nika Roza Danilova, cleaned up her act a little for the release of her debut album. Just enough muck remains here, though, to make "Sea Talk" sound like a siren song sent up from murky depths: Danilova's vocal reaching up through scuzz to lament the men lost to waves. Stridulum II arrives August 23 courtesy of Souterrain Transmissions.

RCRD OF THE DAY: Wavves - King Of The Beach

Wavves’ Nathan Williams may be as famous for his meltdowns and fisticuffs as he is for bleary garage rock, but hey–music’s our messiest form of entertainment and Williams always brings it! New single “King Of The Beach” is a maturation of sound, but it still rides the smashy-smashy bent, bleached riffs, and sunset melody that made Wavves great in the first place. Pick up the new album of the same name right here—it’s a good soundtrack to the media fireworks sure to follow.

RCRD OF THE DAY: Matthew Dear - Little People (Black City)

Techno alchemist Matthew Dear goes...balearic? Sure! Despite the gothic overtones of the parenthetical–also the title of Dear's new LP, which it's from–"Little People (Black City)" is a wonderfully warped spin on beachfront disco, sticky and stretched out like rubbery, oversunned skin. It's also the longest track on the album, so if you're as enamored with it as we are, give thanks to the Ghostly mothership by purchasing the full album here.
