EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD: Soft Circle - Drumbler

The last time we caught up with musician/artist Hisham Bharoocha aka Soft Circle, he was about to embark on a tour with his pals the Boredoms (Bharoocha served as the musical director of their epic 77BOADRUM event in NYC last year) and to celebrate, we released his first exclusive RCRD LBL single "Night Hike". People freaked, FADER posted a great video interview with Hisham and the world was all good in our eyes.
Over the past few months, Bharoocha has been busy with some fine art and photography projects but today, he's back with some brand new music, the epic drum/computer fusion (yeah, we just went there!) jammer "Drumbler". It's both meditative and driving and we think it's pretty damn ace.
Soft Circle has some shows coming up, including a performance at the Bicycle Film Fest in BK next week at Studio B and a special performance for the Joshua Light Show on May 31 with Invisible Conga People at Issue Project Room, so be sure to check out his live-ness—it is not to be missed.

DOWNLOAD: My Best Fiend - Lazy Bones + Maniac

We remember seeing Brooklyn-based My Best Fiend play a show a couple of years back and being transported by their droning experimental alt rock and mesmerizing DIY light show. They fell off our radar for a while but we’re proud to say that they’re back in full force. Their debut album is about to drop, and we got our mitts on some of their new songs to share with you guys. We liked them so much that we decided to sign My Best Fiend to RCRD LBL for an EP, obviously something we don’t take too lightly. The first two tracks we’re releasing are the laid-back, Stone Roses-esque “Lazy Bones” and the rocking “Maniac” both available on their upcoming self-titled album. It’s like it’s the ‘90s all over again, and though we never thought we’d say this at the time, that’s definitely not a bad thing.
Sounds like: Primal Scream, The Stone Roses

FEATURED: White Denim on WNYC today

Still totally into White Denim, the band of Austin indie punks who we’ve now seen enough times to declare awesome live (even when they literally played a 5-minute long set at this year’s Plug Awards). If you’ve never experienced White Denim live (think the Minutemen meets Les Savy Fav), you have two options as of today: if you live in New York, you can run and see them open for Tapes ‘n’ Tapes tonight at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza (set time: 8:30PM) and/or you can tune in to WNYC’s Soundcheck show at 2PM and hear a live in-studio performance. Either way, you’ll be blown away. While you’re at it, download their past RCRD LBL singles and check out a Zane Lowe BBC radio show that they were featured on while you are at it.

EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD: White Denim - Goldie Locks

We have an incandescent new White Denim single for you today, entitled “Goldie Locks”, and we sincerely can’t think of a more graciously unhinged way to start off your morning. Like the demented bastard children of the Minutemen and the clan of degenerates from The Hills Have Eyes, White Demin unashamedly blast through the landscape with their searing mix of blues-y southern rock and shambolic post punk. “Goldie Locks” is the epitome of that sound, with its riff straight out of an old MC5 record, condensed and solidified to a couple minutes of unfiltered rock ‘n’ roll.

White Denim have a lot of stuff coming up, like a US and UK tour, a new EP entitled Let’s Talk About It, and the kind of British press reserved for the American bands that are about to blow up bigger than big. Check out their web site for more info and tour dates, and of course download their past RCRD LBL singles below!

EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD: Soft Circle - Night Hike

Today, we are very proud to release an exclusive new single from Soft Circle, the solo project of ex-Black Dice drummer/visual artist and all-around man of flavor Hisham Bharoocha. This is Soft Circle's first release since 2007's acclaimed Full Bloom LP (see Pfork link at bottom) and represents a turn of sorts from the impressionistic, mellower vibes of his previous work. "Night Hike", available exclusively via RCRD LBL, is a driving, percussive track that recalls the electronic wizardry of his former tourmates Prefuse 73 and Battles and should serve as a great taste of what Bharoocha plans to cook up for his next full length. It was recorded by producer/musician Rusty Santos (Animal Collective, Panda Bear) and you hope you love it as much as we do.
Be sure to catch Soft Circle on tour with the Boredoms all this week (Bharoocha served as the musical director of their epic 77BOADRUM event in NYC last year) and watch this space later today for an exclusive video interview courtesy of our bros at the FADER.

FEATURED: White Denim get a shout out in New York Times SXSW Recap
.jpg)
The New York Times' Jon Pareles dropped our boys' White Denim's name in his SXSW recap today. Congrats guys! He also name checked two other RCRD LBL-affiliated bands as well, naming the Dodos and Atlas Sound as some of his other favorites from the festival. Way to get some exposure dudes!
Check out the whole piece at the Times website and grab free downloads from all those artists using the handy links below.

FEATURED: DFA SXSW party tomorrow!
.jpg)
A whole bunch is going on this Saturday in Austin, but we’re definitely going to be spending the majority of our time getting twisted at the DFA party, which will feature the talents of jams of Digitalism (DJing), Holy Ghost!, Still Going, our very own RCRD LBL artist, Jacques Renault, and dude of dudes Justin Miller, and, to our great excitement, our favorite Berlin-via-UK experimental pop performance artist, Planningtorock (who was pretty dope when she opened for LCD Soundsystem this past spring). Check out some tunes below and if you are out, we'll be on the floor, perhaps in the literal sense.

FEATURED: Meanest Man Contest
.jpg)
The guys in RCRD LBL band Meanest Man Contest have been busy bees lately, releasing tracks and getting coverage on both 3hive and Sneakmove. The band remixed a song for Thee More Shallows, turning experimental indie rock into a sort of IDM electro pop, while MMC member Eriksolo just remixed the song "Catkilla" for Italian electronic band Apes on Tapes. It's cool to see the guys ripping it up an representing indie/experimental hip hop, of which there is so little. Follow the links below for more MMC exploits!
