DOWNLOAD: The Clippers - Boku & Chevre

On this, the fourth day of my Topshelf anniversary extravaganza, I present to you The Clippers, one of the label's two newest additions to the roster. "Boku & Chevre" showcases the singer's perfectly pop rock voice—like a much happier, go lucky Julian Casablancas pre-hype machine Strokes. Cleverly butchering beaucoup but doing fine on the cheese, the Boston duo also does a nice job of the clean, catchy guitar refrain. The track is off of LP An Evening With..., while you can snag their latest, a split EP with Chicago's Coping, directly from Topshelf.

We’ve always had a thing for sugary pop rock hits: sounds cheesy, I know, and say what you will about a band like, say, Cheap Trick, but we don’t believe in guilty pleasure and One on One is one of the best power pop record of all time. It looks like The Bloodsugars would agree with those statements, as their debut EP BQEP (out today on Engine Room Recordings) is about as hook-laden as you can get without being “My Sharona”. It’s time to shed your inhibitions and get into “Purpose Was Again”, a chugging, catchy single carried by the sweetly soft voice of front man Jason Rabinowitz, and when the chorus kicks in, you’ll be completely taken with visions of ‘90s alt. pop legends Jellyfish (specifically their 1993 LP Spilt Milk). We just might be posting more Bloodsugars stuff in the future, so keep your ears peeled.
