Pretty much since America became a thing, people have been taking road trips. Whether it was hopping a train, hitchhiking with a spiritual stranger, borrowing mom's car before it ran out of gas near the Rocky Mountains or simply hitting your favorite Interstate to see something new with a friend, the road trip was and is as quintessential as it gets.
Jack Kerouac's On The Road has long been one of the works to spread this hit-the-highway mystique to impressionable young folks, and now IFC Films / Sundance Selects is releasing a much-anticipated film adaptation of the classic book directed by Walter Salles. Starring Sam Riley, Garrett Hedlund and Kristen Stewart, the movie will finally bring Kerouac's inspirational, energetic prose to a new generation. Check out the trailer.
For us, the best part of road trips, besides going insane and having memorable adventures and conversations, has always been the soundtrack. We'll never forget rapping along to Jay-Z outside of El Paso or finally settling on Neil Young's After The Gold Rush once we got north of Muir Woods, and it's these moments that stick with us.
