DOWNLOAD: Ex Wife - Visions
.jpg)
How do I love Ex Wife? Let me count the ways. They are from New Brunswick. Their first album, Everything Was Beautiful, was just that and shamefully overlooked. There is a literal mass of swooning ladies left standing after each performance. They are humble and humbling. Their minimalist take on punk and emo does right by both genres. They are quite possibly breaking up, and as such, their newest, the June EP, will serve as that album later fans stumble upon and curse themselves for not discovering sooner. They entered quietly and will leave much the same, but not without having raised the bar and not without the dedicated mourning the loss. Find "Visions" and the rest of the fantastic June EP here.
PREMIERE: Joan Of Arc - Deep State

There are a lot of Kinsellas in Chicago, and in their wake have followed many bands. While it's tempting to pass off Joan Of Arc as the ashes of the retrospectively revered Cap'n Jazz (more so still considering guitarist Victor Villarreal has now boarded the ship), fifteen years of putting out records affords you your own place on the mantle. Purveyors of minimalist post rock, "Deep State" is as political as it sounds and all the more charming. I will happily accept Arc anchor Tim's agenda if it means the Kinsella-crafted soundscapes that we've come to expect, kicking in here right around the three-minute mark. Life Like is the group's upcoming LP on Polyvinyl, engineered by fellow industry vet Steve Albini and out in May.
PREMIERE: Blank Dogs - Keeping All The Time
.jpg)
While Blank Dogs began as a somewhat anonymous one-man recording project, it was quickly revealed to be that of Mike Sniper's, formerly of NJ punkers D.C. Snipers and mastermind behind Brooklyn's heavy hitting Captured Tracks label. Minimalist post-punk that's heavy on the synth and low-grade vocals, "Keeping All The Time" is a pre-Land and Fixed rarity, the 2010 album that debuted a marked improvement in the project's recording quality. The track is from Collected By Itself: 2006-2009, the upcoming double LP and CD that features remastered material compiled from out of print singles, EP's, cassette and compilation tracks, none of which has previously been available on CD.
