Mariachi El Bronx, the Mexican alter ego of SoCal hardcore band The Bronx, released its second self-titled album back in August via ATO Records. Despite the band’s heavy rock upbringing, Mariachi El Bronx’s brand of punchy, swinging Latin music is compellingly authentic. The group, who are currently on tour with the Foo Fighters, offer fiery compositions with a catchy flair -- something you can experience on album cut “48 Roses,” which pairs an impassioned ballad with traditional mariachi stylings and the group’s formative rock background.

Who would win in a fight, El Nombre or Sid Vicious? Sorry masked gerbil, seems Sid has that one won. But wait a second, and consider: if the Mariachi's gentle Latin sunshine music has been able to overthrow the sabre-toothed, saliva-drenched young blades of The Bronx, surely it can take anyone on? With "Cell Mate", the first single from Mariachi el Bronx, it's about the power of persuasion rather than obnoxious, brain-blowing strength - it reminds me a bit of Aesop's "The North Wind And The Sun", come to think of it. That and amazing car adverts from my youth.
Sounds Like: Beirut, Neutral Milk Hotel, Los Lobos
