EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Ulysses - Toucan (Demo Mix)

Because what's Thursday without indulging in a ten-minute krautrock cut with keyboards that sound like ooze dripping from our corneas and drums that had to have been played by someone with ten arms? (Answer: boring.) Ulysses is New York resident Elliot Taub, one half of the Neurotic Drum Band and seasoned NYC nightlife dude (that's him standing in front of the old club Fun, where he threw the Regressive Technologies parties in the early 2000s). He just put out a 12-inch of some more club-appropriate stuff on Wurst, go buy that here when you get to the other side of this unreleased epic.

Sounds like: Faze Action, Permanent Vacation, Liars at their most wasted

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Majeure - Timespan (Edit) + Teleforce

Pittsburgh duo Zombi puts the og in prog, so you might guess at the sound of Majeure, the new solo project from Zombi drummist-synther A.E. Paterra. And you’d be right, but—so? Majeure focuses on the Tron-disco aspect of his main band, and even if he’s obvious in his inspirations, his soon to be released debut, Timespan, is consistently, evocatively powerful. Both this exclusive edit of the title track and “Teleforce” sound like the ’80s futurism they had in the ’70s, perfect for your next all-night drive along the autostrada.

EXCLUSIVE STREAM: Fujiya & Miyagi - Pussyfooting

Of the many words thrown around when describing Brighton kraut-revivalists Fujiya & Miyagi, "fun" may be the descriptor that sticks as it should. That's because—not including myself—just about everybody loves to boogie and laugh or even smile. Like the title of this exclusive stream might suggest, frontdude Dave Best's taste for deadpanning hasn't waned at all since Transparent Things made the splash it did two years ago. A mission statement slash love letter, "Pussyfooting" blankets its rhythmic spine in "Beverly Hills Cop" synths while Best's sexy-time vocals are laced throughout. Takka takka takka takka unh.

Sounds Like: Neu!, Hot Chip, Kraftwerk

Ya ha. The irony of the track below is palpable. It's got such an easy hook, this is the type of song that comes in one ear and bounces around in your head (as your head bounces around to the beat), taking a little break by Cingulate Cortex (yeah the place in your brain which activates emotion about a sound), dancing around bit, chillaxing, and only finally leaving (to your regret) with the rising tides.

It is then you realize how much you've missed the Brighton cats Fujiya + Miyagi. Word is they are taking over the world, one festival at a time (11 festivals this year, folks) and putting out a third album in the fall. Til then, we thought we'd sent this happy reminder over the web-waves and boogie with ya.

Portishead Returns for Coachella + Kling Klang Download

The buzz is all over the Internet.  Portishead is releasing its third album after a long three-year absence. Released on April 28th, Geoff Barrow and Beth Gibbons have come together to produce the 11-track album simply called "Third". There's something poetic about the timing, but what's the significance of 3-3-3?

We're anticipating the big sound from Portishead's understated single -word track names like "Silence", "Plastic" and "Small". It's gonna be huge. For a preview of the album go to the Coachella Music Festival (April 25-27 at Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif.) where Portishead will play their first show on American soil in nearly a decade! For the full line-up click here. If you were lucky enough to be in Europe this spring you'd be spoilt as Portishead were playing gigs in Portugal, Italy, UK, Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, France and Brussels. We checked out the supporting acts on that tour and had never heard of the odd A Hawk and a Hacksaw,  but we loved Liverpool's Kling Klang so much we got you all a download.  Kling Klang describe themselves as "...5-piece heavy experimental synthesiser krautrock orchestra with amplified vintage synths, futuristic riffs, electric guitars and live drums".

Enjoy das Krautrock!

Finally, word on the street is that there's a secret gig in LA this week...Remember who told you first.

And If you need a reminder of Portishead's classic sound, check out their 1994 film noir, "To Kill A Dead Man". That film score deserves a release! Pleease.

We don’t know what’s going on with museums in NYC, but we’re not complaining. Our bros over at DFA and the Museum of Modern Art are hosting an amazing party this Saturday, in conjunction with the museum's Pop Rally series of events. To celebrate their upcoming exposition Color Chart: Reinventing Color, 1950 to Today, MoMA have invited (wait for it) The Juan Maclean, T&T (Tim Goldsworthy and Tim Sweeney), Holy Ghost!, Justin Miller and our very own Jacques Renault to DJ the festivities. An exposition on the evolution of color and DFA? Sounds like the LCD Soundsystem “Movement” video all over again, are we right?

Since we figured you guys would be stoked, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the event. Keep in mind, tickets are only available at the museum box office, so having a pair ahead of time gives a certain party time advantage. To win tickets, send an email with your info to contests@rcrdlbl.com (make sure to put “DFA MOMA PARTY” in the subject). The winner will be chosen at random. Oh, and you have to be 21+.

Huge thank you to DFA and the people at MoMA for letting us hook this one up. Check out the flyer and more info after the jump, and good luck to all you guys...
