One thing that Friday nights and juke have in common? Repetition. I think that's why they sit so well together, and why this Wheez-ie remix of Distal's "Coke Bottle" (out now through Sinden's Grizzly) sounds so great. Sampled voices and beats whip by like a three-frame GIF, sub-bass looming ponderously beneath the lunacy. What are you doing this Friday night? Same thing you do every Friday night? I bet that that excites you, though; I know there is "joy in repetition".

Pardon the gush—but we’ve secretly had “Sweet Thang” for months, and it singlehandedly turned our January into Jamuary. Because of this, we’ve been counting down the days until we could give it to you. So warm it up extra hard for Chrissy Murderbot’s twisty juke pinball dream. Celebrate further by partying with the bespeckled G himself, at his upcoming record release soiree (tix available here). We’re so ready, we've already rented one of these bad boys to practice our fancy footwork.

Warped, blaring, and neon, the keyboards on Salva's "Wake Ups" are instantly recognizable, recalling similar dimensions in the keys of people like DaM-Funk, Zapp, or even DJ Quik. But that's just the intro--it's where the track proceeds that widens your eyes. Stuttering clicks and taps wrap around sheet metal snares, the keyboard zigzags all over the place like it's looking for a way out, and that's when you realize that this isn't just some George Clinton homage. There's the percussive patterns of Chicago juke house, the cut-up vocals of glitchy experimental hip-hop, and the 8-bit bass bombs of jungle. That Salva is originally from Chicago but now lives in Cali makes sense: He expertly synthesizes the scenes of all his stomping grounds on his synthesizer. The result is an unusual and totally distinct form of electronic music, absorbing so many different styles in the space of a single track that it's nearly impossible to classify. But that doesn't make it impossible to move your feet or bang your head. Salva's debut, Complex Housing, is out February 8th on Friends of Friends Music.

Sounds like 2010 was more sombre than I remember it. Listen to this with something or someone you love and let me stowaway in your memories forever.

America: you may well already be aware of DJ Nate's hyperactive attack music, given that the influences of footwork and juke are currently surging through London bass scene veins. "Make Em Run" is typically wired and wild, vocals warped to sound as if they're struggling for breath as they try to keep pace with pulsating bass digs. To the UK this is more or less totally alien, so all hail Planet Mu for putting together the Hatas Our Motivation EP, a six-track shot overlooking what Nate's been doing these last five years. It's out August 2nd.

On floors across town lines, a new brand of Diplo-approved ghettotech’s been dropping on the regular. Chrissy Murderbot’s LP swings from happy hardcore to bubbling juke, dupstep to dancehall. Sounds impossible, but dude’s come off stellar Professor Murder and Ssion remixes to invoke Major Lazer on the first track and synth-grime B-sides on the second. Rinse and repeat.

Last time we heard from Matias at RCRD LBL the man was a hell of a lot smoother, his Latin croon gliding over chintzy disco-house and taunting minimal techno for its complete lack of sex. Well, the sex may still be here, but "Bo Jack" is a lot harsher on the ears, dominated by drums that flog at scared, burbling synths and a vocal that sounds recorded in the final conscious hours of drunken stupor. It's also the debut A-side from new label Comeme, a venture spearheaded by Aguayo and a host of other Mexican, South American and African musicians. In the interests of starting as you mean to go on, it's definitely a good job "Bo Jack" bangs so very hard.
