PREMIERE: James Yuill - Give You Away (Finale Edit)

The phrase 'laptop troubadour' has always seemed something of an oxymoron to me. Where do these guys plug in to play? In electrical stores? On trains? James Yuill sounds like a man who's spent the last ten years in his bedroom perfecting his record and, er, 'laptopadour' steez, only for his Mac to die when he pulls the plug from the wall. Wry with quiet fuming, "Give You Away (Finale Edit)" is the first music to emerge from Yuill's new album Movement In A Storm, which will arrive in June through Moshi Moshi so you can all hear what wonder he's been working on.

Sounds Like: Delphic, Four Tet, Hot Chip

James Yuill meticulously weaves traditional acoustic music with electronica (or vice versa) without it sounding like there's a conspicuous backing track or like either form overpowers one another. The English gent often harnesses together pop-centric, atmospheric beats - reminiscent of Loney Dear's older jams (like home-recorded, more computer-based Ignorant Boy, Beautiful Girl) or perhaps Sigur Ros channeling Sufjan Stevens' folk on a computer, after listening to a lot of Chemical Brothers' albums. You may just need to see him to understand; lucky you, he'll be this side of the pond with his guitar and gadgetry in NY on April 6th at Mercury Lounge and hosting a free show at Coco 66 in Brooklyn on the 7th. Check it.

Sounds Like: Loney Dear, Sigur Ros, Sufjan Stevens, Chemical Brothers
