EXCLUSIVE DOWNLOAD: FemBots - Ice Cream

The FemBots began as a home recording project of Dave MacKinnon and Brian Poirier and their debut, Mucho Cuidado, featured songs written and performed on power tools, toys and broken down thrift store instruments. The duo quickly carved a unique space in the Toronto music scene bringing their post-industrial folk songs to the stage using tape loops and reel-to-reel machines mixed with often frantic live performances.

The FemBots recently released their 4th album 'Calling Out' - but if you want see how it all began might i sugest heading over to the PBR Shop?

FemBots released their third LP The City through Paper Bag Records back in 2005. If you're unfamiliar with Dave MacKinnon and Brian Poirier's dreamy, soulful, acoustic-goodness you're in for a treat today as we've blown the metaphorical dust off one of our favourite tracks "Count Down Our Days" for your aural pleasure.

The City revealed a rich, authentic sound that built upon the FemBots earlier work whilst moving the band in an exciting new direction. Banging piano chords, catchy choruses, soulful vocals, swinging guitars, woven string and horns pushed the stark black and white vision of their earlier albums into full technicolor bloom, all the while remaining true to the emotional core of the songs.

At its heart The City is a homage to the band’s hometown, Toronto – its victories and failures, told in vignettes of everyday life, odes to lost neighborhoods and laments for a place whose history is being buried under waves of condo development. However, the FemBots were never jaded; their love for their city also comes through clearly on this album. At times raucous and loud, at others mournful and haunting, The City became the FemBots most personal and beautiful album to date.
