This past week has been excellent... Our show last Saturday with Adult. went really well (sold out, rumour has it) and the following night, Factory Records legends, A Certain Ratio, were in town to headline the Part Time Punks festival at The Echoplex. Because we're so brilliant (haha), Ratio's drummer, Donald Johnson, stayed at our house for a week...
Now, we wouldn't let a fabulous opportunity like this go to waste, so Donald, who's also worked with the likes of Bryan Ferry and Electronic, can add Pop Noir to his illustrious list of collaborators!
Here's some videos for you.. First one is of us covering ACR's classic track "Do the Du" in the garage for a laugh, and the second is our song "DIY" and a cover of "Paint it Black" from a show we played with Donald while he was here...
This is why the internet is so fantastic! Get yourself over to Wired.com for the exclusive 3-D video of Wanderlust by Bjork. As always Bjork delivers something to help us all get through the day. You'll need to dig out or make yourself some custom 3-D goggles - and Wired can help you do that too. You can also score a free pair from this nifty sight here. If you find yourself scooting out to the craft store to make a "do-it-yourself" pair - please send us a photo. We're holding a competition for the best homemade Bjork inspired 3-D bins.
After being members of the explosion of Brooklyn bands in the early ‘00s (with bands like TV on the Radio and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), art rockers SSION left for Kansas City a few years ago and never looked back, leaving their titles of “Next Big Things” kind of in the air. Fast-forward to 2007, the band have been at the forefront of a new scene in their adoptive hometown, are about to release their second album Fool’s Gold (their debut, Opportunity Bless My Soul, dropped in 2003) and have had their new single, “Clown” remixed by Italians Do It Better artists Glass Candy. The song’s original vibe, like most of SSION’s material, has a scuzzy, home-made, DIY quality to it, whereas the Glass Candy remix polishes up the ends and gives it that Italians shine. It’s minimal Italo, sounding like Hot Chip’s evil doppelgangers ripping a page from Giorgio Moroder’s handbook. Download it by clicking the link below.
