Fanfarlo like trees

It's nice when you hear that David Bowie's got your back. This is what stunned the mortals of Fanfarlo back in April this year when the Thin White Duke declared that the sextet were among his favourite new bands.

Of course, that means sweet nothing if you don't have the tunes to back it up (David is getting on a little bit, now). Fortunately, the band established by Swedish ex-pat Simon have those in their oodles.

Beginning with only a temperamental laptop for accompaniment at his live shows, Simon quickly set about collecting five more multi-instrumentalists (Justin and Leon came first, then Amos, Mark and finally Cathy). Three singles old, the band now offer this – a teaser of a teaser of an album that will be recorded over Christmas. Recorded mostly in Simon's front room, on his (now less irritable) laptop, it offers hints of joys to come.

What do we love about Fanfarlo? It's probably that we can't resist entering into the world that Aurell has built around himself – leading us to wallow in the uniting, intangible purpose that each song has - they crush every ounce of effort and emotion through the narrowest of pop margins so that its power spurts out in a colourful explosion at every climax.

Before there's an album though, look for a split 7" with friends Sleeping States early next year, a UK headline tour, and a trip to SXSW (bank robberies to pay for flights pending). Do join their passion play.
