EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: HECUBA - Even So (You're Mine Mix) + Miles Away
HECUBA's reworked version of their own "Even So" sounds less like a pop song and more like a spell, Isabelle Albuquerque staring into that gap behind your eyes as she works cooly through incantations that will oblige you to love her forever (no quits). There's something unsettling about the minimal beat music this LA duo conjure - it seems sure of itself to an otherworldly extent, as if it has in its possession some arcane and long-thought-lost knowledge about the cosmos. You can ponder that for a while - HECUBA's music, pulled carefully into place for new album Paradise, is accomodating in that respect - or you can dance, safe in the knowledge that they're Devendra Banhart's favourite band. You could do both of course, but I hear if you turn a certain way into the wrong wind your eyes will swallow themselves and all your teeth will explode.
