Annie Mac!
Everybody knows we're crushing hard on Annie Mac, so we're quite proud to have had two artists featured on her Radio 1 show lately:
Surkin did a 47-tracks 5-minutes minimix last week.
Drop The Lime (aka Curses!) just did one as well, clocking at 36 tracks in the mandatory five minutes.

Tech: A (virtual) DJ's dream
We've all sat at our dining room table or couch and embarked on the tedious, but necessary step of digitizing our music collection. Slogging your way through CD after CD and importing them into iTunes can either be a chore or a pleasurable way to kill a Sunday afternoon (especially if spliffs are involved). It's boring, but in the end you have instant access to your entire collegiate music collection, from Sublime to the Specials. And leave you wondering how Ace of Base made it in there.
Imagine the undertaking of seminal public radio station KCRW in Santa Monica, then, as they try and do the same thing with 60,000+ titles in a carefully and lovingly crafted library, much of it on vinyl, exclusive, or out of print. Fortunately for their listeners, they've almost completed the process and soon their tastemaker DJs and champions of independent music will have the entire digital library at the end of their fingertips. To inspire us all they've even recorded the process and made a 6-minute documentary on the project. Check it out here.
We've seen with our own eyes the tiny 10'x15' library they're working with and can attest to their need for the digital space that only hard drives can afford. It's pretty unbelievable to walk into a library of that size and realize they still have pretty much every current and classic album in indie, electronic, world, hip hop, jazz, etc. It's a humbling experience and a music lover's dream. Doubt they have Ace of Base though.
