DOWNLOAD: Mixel Pixel - Body Automatic + MORE
Mixel Pixel match electronic experimentation with goofy humor. Exbihit 1: “Body Automatic” sounds like blues has been shot in the foot by ecstasy-provoked electronic synths- causing its soon-to-be-carcass to stumble around in a wigged out instrument-strewn blur. Exhibit 2: “Favorite Sweater” on reminds me of Liz Phair back-when-she-was-gritty-and-bold – EXCEPT it’s tamer and more PG-13 (i.e. all references to cunilingus et al has been subbed with cutesy lyrics about high school prom and stuff.) Exhibit 3: “Pink Shirts” definitely riffs from 1980's new wave synth obsession while tacking on some candy-coated modern glitch - ala White Williams.
Hmmm....since my imagination is running wild today, I realize I've thrown in an obnoxious amount of random references of artists and eras into one paragraph- so you might just want to listen to the jams below for a full prognosis.
Oh and tomorrow we are gonna debut two newbie exclusives from these guys. So grab it, cherish it, and keep tabs on tomorrow.
Sounds Like: Abe Vigoda, White Williams, Liz Phair, Old Dirty Bastard, Pink Mountaintops
FEATURED: The Heavy, Mgmt, Moby and Justice at C3/Playboy Party in Austin
Where were we till dawn last night? At the "Rock The Rabbit" C3/Playboy party in Austin, which featured The Heavy, MGMT, Moby, Tommy Sunshine, and Justice all in one till-dawn-do-us-part blast. Rumor was there were two black-outs during the Moby and Justice sets. We don't know because we were in a blissed stupor when Pete Townsend orders 6 jack daniels and soda next to us and Perry Farrell chatted with us philosophically about MSTRKRFT and The Cool Kids. STREAM: The Duke Spirit- Lassoo

The UK outfit The Duke Spirit first grabbed our attention with their attitude-soaked garage rock Cuts Across the Land, released state-side in 2006. Then we didn't hear anything from them for a while and started to think of them a bit of a tease. By 2007, we persuaded ourselves to forget about them.
Now, out of the blue, The Duke Spirit is back-gutsy and refreshed- with an onslaught of catchy, bluesy psychedelic rock. Just like we remembered, singer Liela Moss’s deep rasp morphes from Mazzy Starr coos to dark-edged ferocity reminiscent of Shirley Manson of Garbage. Meanwhile, in their new album Neptune, the band beasts out on vigorous electric guitar synths, minimal distortion, and biting percussion. They’ve taken good care of themselves and it shows. Check it out for yourself with "Lassoo" below.
