EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Pictureplane - New Mind

Poptimism writ in large, neon, flashing lights, it was around this time last year that Denver rave nymph Travis Egedy - AKA Pictureplane - published this essay discussing the imminent arrival of a leisure-fuelled utopia. Entitled 'Cultural Revolution as Pop Possibility' and inspired by Madonna's "Holiday", it's an example of the way Egedy puts cliched pop cultural motifs to new uses; delivering a dance heavy in rave paraphernalia (sirens; crudely cut diva vocals; thrusting, synthetic horns) but with emotional priority reclaimed from the machines, Egedy whispering coy promises in the midst of the mix. Striking out on his own work after remixing the likes of Crystal Castles and HEALTH, Pictureplane's debut 7" "Trance Doll" arrives courtesy of Lovepump United on March 10th - below is the B-side, the whole thing here.

We've often wondered who the murky men controlling the music industry are - the power brokers, the money men, the titular 'grande fromage'. We always assumed they were the ones lurking at the edges of our television screens as we sat in our living rooms, dinners in laps, looking out over the heads of those invited to things like The Brit Awards - the sort of people you can glimpse at around 1:30 in that video up yonder. Well, turns out we were wrong - seems none other than Chicago mash-up crew The Hood Internet have this whole game wrapped up. Recorded back in June last year, prescience doesn't seem an acceptable explanation here - check out the strings they're pulling at the link below. As Aaron Brink and Steve Reidell themselves state, "We're in ur past, predictin ur futures". Scary - we'll have this one next please, Hood Internet.

Video: Prodigy's Last Before Jailtime
SEEN tuned into the Power 106 radio interview with Prodigy, one half of NYC rap crew Mobb Deep, last night (Dec 5). Prodigy talked about his new album released on Koch Records, entitled 'HNIC 2' (short for "Head Nigga In Charge 2"). He's in the studio putting the finishing touches to this album that will keep him on the streets, in a virtual sense, whilst he's in jail for 3 1/2 years for illegal possession of a firearm.
In tribute to Prodigy, SEEN found this amazing mash-up of Mobb Deep's 'Quiet Storm' and the animated film 'Advent Children' (based on the Final Fantasy VII video game) which creates a whole new level of soundtrack experience. This is a new genre called AMV, short for anime music videos. The internet is choc full of some very creative cut and paste AMVs which match classic tunes to realistic video games. If you want to create your own, check out this useful resource.
Here's the video interview Prodigy did with Hot 97 in his home town last month where he talked about his case and resolve to stay positive in jail, and here's the video directed by DanTheMan for the first single off of Prodigy's third album, ABC.
"In broad daylight get right..just been through it all man...what the fuck else can happen yo!?"
