FEATURED: Arms & Speck Mountain Are Playing In Brooklyn On Monday

Apologies for the continued New York-centric alerts, but Brooklyn gets another treat this Sunday when Arms (aka Todd Goldstein from The Harlem Shakes) performs at Union Hall for the second-ever time with a full band. Joining him will be Chicago's Speck Mountain, who just hooked us up with an exclusive demo from their new album Some Sweet Relief. It's only eight bucks (and you can play bocce upstairs!) so check out the music and if it's your thing, head out on Monday.

FEATURED: RCRD LBL Bands At The East Village Radio Fest
.jpg)
As someone who’s spent a good amount of time in the tiny mirrored DJ booth on First Avenue that is East Village Radio (shout to FADER's The Let Out), I can say that the station has made itself something of an bastion in the neighborhood; a place for independent, diverse, radio programming from some of the best DJ’s in the city and a must-see-spot for Mark Ronson stalkers. This Saturday the station will put on their first festival, a FREE affair down at the Southstreet Seaport featuring some amazing headlining talent like Boris and Devin The Dude backed by some great other bands that we’ve been telling you were awesome for awhile. We’ve pulled together all the tracks we’ve got from festival artists, so get stoked for Saturday by throwing them on loop. Set times, more info and constant jams over at EVR.

Bobmo and Jean Nipon (joined by homeland hero Curses! on select dates) are coming for a quick rampage within the US borders. It will be, as you Americans in tight white jeans say, "rad".
Go say hello to our friends at The Fader to cop a brilliant teaser mix put together by Jean Nipon, featuring exclusives such as his new single '4WD', a remix by Bobmo of Surkin's 'Kid Gloves', a snippet of Teki's verse from Orgasmic's take on 'White Knight Two', a taste of Laidback Luke's remix, Feadz' track from the upcoming Eurogirls go to Baltimore part II comp, David Rubato's remix of 'Lights Out' by Santogold and some other goodies.

Live: Massive Attack vs Blade Runner

Our favorite Bristolians, Massive Attack, are breaking molds again. They're curating this year's Meltdown Festival at the South Bank Centre in London (June 14-22nd), and are also participating in the highlight event of the fest: a live orchestral reinterpretation of Vangelis’ score to Blade Runner.
Tomorrow (Tuesday 17th in London) Massive Attack will perform a remix performance of the Vangelis soundtrack by the Heritage Orchestra. Remember Massive's classic "Blue Lines" that sampled and reinterpreted everything from reggae to soul to rock-fusion? And the dubbed-out "No Protection" remix album produced by Mad Professor. We're not sure how the Meltdown Vangelis show will work exactly, but the thought of Robert “3D” Del Naja conducting the Heritage Orchestra is intriguing to say the least.
More details from the Heritage Orchestra site to whet the appetite:
"A rare live performance aiming to recapture the evocative and atmospheric sounds of Blade Runner using massive layers of live strings, synthesisers, orchestral percussion, live Foley work, ambient effects, vocalists, lighting, and surround sound...Whilst Vangelis turned synthesiser into orchestra, the orchestra will now become the synthesiser...”
Tickets are $35 with show time 7:45pm.

More moving images, and much more to come, I'm afraid, what with our Parisian birthday bash recap and Alizée x David Rubato's promo video, and, and, and, Para One's video diary, featuring the whole Terror Club at their most retarded and lyrical, demonstrating there is meaning in madness. And to think that we started out as dyed-in-the-wool literary folks. What happened?
In other news, Cuizinier's street-tape-cum-love-letter-cum-ransom-note is O.U.T. And you can cop it HERE.
LIVE DOWNLOAD Magic Bullets: "Yesterday's Seen Better Days" LIVE [at the Echo]
Here's a track from one of my favorite bands. They're pretty new, just really starting to play out. Haven't really gone far out of California much. They're from the SF bay area... remind me of all of the good things about the band Television. Great musicians. Seriously, good stuff. I got Corey in the band to talk a bit about the show and what they think of playing our fine establishment. We even made a video with our good friend Michael on this one. Enjoy.
We've probably played The Echo in Los Angeles more times than any other venue in the world. And everytime it has been as a part of the Part Time Punks night. It's a night where they play the kind of records that we like to listen to back home in San Francisco. Mccarthy, Another Sunny Day, Pylon, Felt, Orange Juice, and The Feelies. Also notable about that night was an interview where a guy asked us our names and what position we play. Just like a real sports team! [Check out the video below]
I don't remember a whole lot about playing the show itself. But I definitely remember hearing it played back for the first time. It was great to hear how our new material stacked up next to our older songs.
On a whole I think it's a great album. And it's nice to hear the parts where we mess up. In fact, I think my guitar is missing from an entire verse of "Millions of People.." when Phil kicked my tuning pedal across the stage and unplugged it from the amp. But it gives the record a certain charm that a studio record could never duplicate.
