PREMIERE: Psychobuildings - Baby Cops

In the past, it seemed like Talking Heads were lurking every time Psychobuildings dropped a new gem. "Baby Cops," the band's new single and a huge step forward, will put those comparisons to rest. Here, it's unabashed late-night loft music with a watery futuro groove, lyrics about candlestick battles and a bouncy beat steeped in impeccable production. The single is out right now and previews the group's upcoming Hearts EP.

Disembodied voices crushed to rhythmic pulses. Sound collaged violently into an airy nightmare. That's "She The Bodiless" by Chicago industrial project White Car. It's awesome, yet we're glad its intensity was chased with another preview track from the upcoming Everyday Grace LP (via Hippos In Tanks). "Now We Continue" has a ghoulish, danceable creep to it that's perfect for a cold stare and letting fog roll out the side of your mouth.

8-bit beatsmiths have been kicking around for a while, but few have found the staying power or creative success of Norway’s Casiokids. Returning with their second album in two years, Anbaringen Over Aaskammen comes stocked with the vocal quirks and recording experimentation that keeps the band ahead of the curve. The record title translates to “the revelation over the mountain,” and you can see this direction in tracks like “Det Haster!” Pop vocals and electro beats soar over a melodic center, crowned of course by the band’s namesake and best-used instrument. Grab the full-length October 11 on Polyvinyl.

Remember Just a number 05272011? Well the secretive new group with the tortured songs that sound a bit like The Knife are called Battlekat now. Truth be told, they could have come out calling themselves 'Bombay' or 'Not Scandinavia' and it still would have been obvious where they were from. This version of "He Didn't Want A Love Song" has been remixed by Bristol's Hyetal, but his involvement in no way disguises the social experiment that's being conducted the length and breadth of Scandinavia, whereby children are sent out naked into the ice forests with their hearts chemically burst and their larynges rigged up to anti-smoking FX pedals, and then told that membership of the school choir is a necessary requisite for the continuation of their own lives. As a 25-year-old living hundreds of miles away, I can safely say that—if this is the kind of thing that results from such experiments—I'm all for them.

Typical—you wait for the British Isles to produce one potty-mouthed pop strumpet, and then two come along at once. After (and better) than Jessie J comes FOE, who doesn't quite stand up to Ke$ha in the slut stakes but definitely takes the prize for devilish wordplay: talking of "clowns in G-strings" and "bee stings" and a "little milky skinned girl/pissing in the playground." I have very little idea what it all means, but it drips off her tongue like sexy petrol, and Entrepreneurs only adds to that strange taste in your mouth with a perfect storm of whirlpool synths and punishing snare hail. You'll be wanting more after this, so get FOE's forthcoming Hot New Trash EP (natch) through Stella Mortos from April 4.

PREMIERE: Lykke Li - Get Some (Remix by Beck)

When I posted the original version of this track recently, I remarked on how Lykke Li seems to get further and further away from the lovestruck little girl of "Little Bit" with every song she makes. Whether consciously or not, Beck seems to have arrived at a similar conclusion, "Get Some" getting ever tougher with ribald percussive thrusts and vocal cries put to the fore like saucy schoolgirl playground chants. Her new album Wounded Rhymes arrives February 28.

PREMIERE: Everything Everything - Photoshop Handsome (Disclosure Edit)

If you've heard Everything Everything's original version of "Photoshop Handsome" and weren't boggled enough by it, this gloopy, ebbing Disclosure edit of the track should make you content. The London-based teenage brothers slap Jonathan Higgs' vocal around like Ali would a punchdrunk "opponent", fading it down and back in again in a way that'd be irritating if the synth beds it fell into and rose from each time weren't so lush and liquid. Find that original through Geffen January 17.

PREMIERE: CocknBullKid - One Eye Closed (Jakwob Remix)

CocknBullKid's original "One Eye Closed" is sweetly sung electro-pop with a garage rock edge. Jakwob has a history of brewing those kinds of bouncy tracks into new fuel for the dance floor, he's given her track an extra thump, but keeps it just as pearly as it was before the rerub. Look for CocknBullKid opening for Marina & The Diamonds this month and Bloc Party frontman Kele in November.
