DOWNLOAD: jj - We Can't Stop (feat. Ne-Yo)

Presented with little comment: jj’s naturalistic, oh-so-Swedish chillpop swirled with Ne-Yo’s southern R&B swag. “We Can’t Stop” is thick, strange, and aqueous until three minutes in, when it briefly slips into a soft, top 40 jam before finally succumbing to a curious swamp of both. Overtly melodic, highly nonsensical, and a great start to a weird weekend.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Fabio Lendrum - Trouble (CFCF Remix)

Tags: balearic, disco, piano house

Typically ecstatic stuff from CFCF here as he sets about stuffing pills down the throat of teen pop boy Fabio Lendrum, bejeweling his original version of "Trouble" with pianos that sound played by the sun's crepuscular rays and synths that tickle like gut pangs. I love it when pop hides its true intentions - CFCF always seems to be wiring up more subtle versions of this and this; god bless him for it.

DOWNLOAD: Tosca - Springer

No Hassle, the title of Tosca's fifth and latest album, serves as the electronic duo's mission statement and mantra. Consisting of Richard Dorfmeister (half of downtempo legends Kruder & Dorfmeister) and Rupert Huber, Tosca holds a mirror up to an increasingly frightful world and shows a gentler, less hectic possibility. They describe their double disc album as "an hour-long ambient symphony," of which "Springer" is a part. A digital patchwork of droning pitches leads into a call and response session between soothing synth flourishes and guitar/bass lines, taking Balearic vibes stargazing. Climb in Tosca's virtual escape pod and repeat after them: no hassles.

As technology advances, the world's appetite for speed grows ever more intense, always finding new ways for us to get more done faster. Meanderthals can hardly be blamed, then, for offering a more leisurely-paced alternative on their forthcoming debut album, Desire Lines. Consisting of London dub-house duo Idjut Boys and Oslo's Rune Lindbæk, Meanderthals conjure breezy, seaside atmospheres that split the difference between Balearic boogie and stoned psychedelica. On "Kunst or Ars," their bent and stretched guitar leads arch over an easygoing combination of clave flecks, pastoral acoustic strums, slow-handed funk bass and shimmering steel drum melodies. Satisfying like a long, hard-earned stretch or a frosty beverage on a hot day, Meanderthals' serene tunes remind listeners to take it easy.

DOWNLOAD: Studio - West Coast

The warm and inviting music of the Swedish duo Studio should be prescribed liberally for sour moods and dreary days. Their overlapping waves of clearheaded guitar riffs, cascading synths and limber, bountiful bass lines evoke tropical, almost Balearic vibes in the aptly titled "Life's A Beach!" and laid back baggy chic in "West Coast." Lest things get too relaxed, Studio holds together long-winded near disco jams with boyish, yearning vocals seeking "solid good times" and "to fall in love." As endearing as it is danceable, you can get your first dose of Studio's feel good medicine below.
