DOWNLOAD: Luke Roberts - Unspotted Clothes

Luke Roberts, when talking about the tracks on his debut album Big Bells And Dime Songs, made his intentions clear. "They are poems that I didn't feel comfortable not reciting before I go," he said. "Unspotted Clothes" shows this direct songwriting method in action. Over big, roomy drums and that Americana guitar strum with chunky piano chord back-up you already know so well, this is music made for a one-on-one on the porch. A reissue from Thrill Jockey comes November 8, and the digital version can be coveted with some whiskey right now.
PREMIERE: Miracle Parade - The Dying Physicist

Christopher Pappas picked a fitting moniker. With a lot more lift to it than most lo-fi, his Miracle Parade is full of the sort of triumphant spirit you would expect with such a name. Folk by design but dabbling heavily on the side of indie as well, what started as bedroom recordings is given a nice shine in production (by Rilo Kiley's Pierre De Reeder). The album introduces a cast of characters in its songs, with "The Dying Physicist" making his grand entrance here. Meet them all on June 21, when Hark!...And Other Transmissions is released on Little Record Co.

PREMIERE: Restorations - Broken Vacuum

Do you enjoy the wisened rasp of Blake Schwarzenbach? Perhaps the Tennessee-fashioned tunes of Lucero are more your speed? Well look no further, as Philly's Restorations has managed nods to both in "Broken Vacuum", a track that seamlessly blends everything from Americana to post-punk to the occasional glimpse of Bear vs. Shark. Get your fill of earnestly crafted crooning on their debut self-titled, out digitally March 22 and on vinyl April 19 from Tiny Engines.
PREMIERE: El Sportivo & The Blooz - Clover

Campfire tunes don’t get much more lonesome than El Sportivo & The Blooz’s “Clover.” Riding in on slide twang and blue moons, bedroom vocals and wrong turns, this song will make you howl out for the one your sorry self predictably lost. If their wild backstory is to be believed, El Sportivo and his gang of moonshine-swilling grifters were discovered via obtuse ties to Lewis Pesacov (Foreign Born, Fool’s Gold) and Best Coast. Whatever the truth is behind the band and their self-titled EP on White Iris doesn’t really matter, though. Good folklore is predicated on equal parts dust, bittersweet sentiment, and beautiful yarn, and El Sportivo & The Blooz's sound has got ‘em all.

RCRD OF THE DAY: Lissie - In Sleep (Live)
(Photo: Elaine Constantine)
And with that, previously understated Americana songstress Lissie officially traverses into enigmatic-like-Stevie-Nicks territory. (That this resembles golden era Fleetwood Mac doesn't hurt.) Seriously though, this is live? She sounds truly, perilously, hopelessly anguished by this guy in her dreams, largely because that voice is a force of nature. Catching A Tiger, her debut album, came out today through Fat Possum. This song is on it, but this version is only available here.

Not to be all Sally Sentimental, but we’re pretty proud of Dawes in a weird motherly way because we’ve been fans for a minute and now they are a-blowin’ up! Here, another version of their massive sing-along burner, “When My Time Comes." For those of you looking to see the heartbreak kids live, check dates here, after picking up their debut North Hills.

PREMIERE: Dawes - When My Time Comes (Live)

If you're in the market for a sing-along, you can't really do better than "When My Time Comes," one of those jugular-stretching, Boss-nodding songs people often refer to as "barn burners". It's the high water mark of Dawes' debut LP, North Hills (out now on ATO), but it's also, like all righteous sing-alongs, best experienced live, crescendos deepened and choruses fervently belted. Bonnaroo attendees can experience that in real life this weekend, but for those of us left at home, this MP3 will have to do (and it does).
