PREMIERE: David's Lyre - Tear Them Down (Rylski Remix)

There's something about UK garage's 2-step skip that makes it sound shy and determined at the same time, the result, rather predictably, is sullen music. London-born, Manchester-based solo artist David's Lyre not a walking carnival at the best of times, but together with Rylski's shuffling snares, this remix of his "Tear Them Down" assumes the sort of frown more commonly associated with enigmatic, overcoat-clad Mancunians than cava and cocaine Cockney wideboys. It's a refreshing, disorientating unlocking of style from attitude, and the original version's out now through East City Records.

Hot, summer nights demand open bedroom windows, and through those open windows comes the sound of the air between vehicles getting torn into, swirled around in confused mists of lead and noise. "Field" sounds something akin to that, and as such it's an apt introduction for those of you unaware of this London duo, whose presence here at RCRD LBL today is due to this city's lead and noise. The track's taken from Mount Kimbie's debut album Crooks & Lovers, one of 2010's finest. It's out this month through the mighty Hot Flush.
