Judging from what I've heard thus far, you're all gonna think the new Field record is absolutely beautiful. Yesterday and Today, out May 18th through a combination of Anti- and the exemplary Kompakt, retains the loop-based blueprint of Axel WIllner's 2007 debut but packs it with more detail, those circles of dance bliss growing denser as they tighten. In fact when you unpack it for ears to process, "The More That I Do" seems to hold within itself the DNA strands of all blissful dance moments ever: synths that swirl like glittering, buzzing neurones, resolute 4/4 rhythm and those aforementioned and vital loops, Willner's beatific capture/release mechanics this time drawing on Cocteau Twins' "Lorelei" (well dug, GvsB). Everyone seems to imagine The Field's music soundtracking summery tableaux vivants and this is warm and sun-stunned, doubtless, but most memorable for me was "Everday" bestowing timelessness upon a sundown to sunrise drive from Liverpool to London, rain hammering viciously at the hide of a dying car, the repetition helping eyes stick to the road's white lines. I'm not sure what significance that holds, but I think it suggests that Willner's dance possesses a certain magic, sensitive to everything because it's everywhere - the proclamation of that first album's title should ring true come mid-March. Yes yes; we appear to be going sublime.

Sounds Like: Aphex Twin, Teengirl Fantasy, Cocteau Twins
