This track like of reminds me of those Russian dolls- deceiving due to their layers. On first glance, “Shout Out” has got a simple, happy go-luck electro beat that pulses in your head. Then delve a layer within and you'll find the lyrics spun out in hip-hop spoken word form. (Which by the way, sounds as though the vocalist Jon Von Letscher is hyped up on coffee, hence causing him sputter out words with an English accent (the band is from Austin after all).) But then, beneath that vocal layer, there is a whole tundra of intricate sounds: twinkles, whirls, keyboard, lasers. And then just when you get the hang of it, just when the style gets comfortable, just when you start feeling like dancing, the song ends. Thank god for that repeat button.
