Major Lazer's recent remix contest resulted in 58 pages of entries, so definite props to the six producers that emerged as champs. We've listed each of them below in descending order, with Murdertronics' version of "Pon De Floor" being the grand prize winner.
Despite the dubious omission of any New York City acts from the line-up, we are psyched for Saturday's first HARD NYC at Terminal 5 because, like, why not? Have you seen who's playing? Crookers, Major Lazer, Jack Beats, Rusko, and Destructo–you know your Google Reader totally just imploded. We'll be there raving per usual, but we're also giving away a pair of tickets so you can do the same for free. To enter, email contests@rcrdlbl.com with the subject "HARD NYC"; we'll select a winner tomorrow morning. Full flyer and music from those playing after the jump.
We're gonna pause the free music for a second to highlight this video, a re-written version of Midnight Oil's "Beds Are Burning" specially recorded for the Kofi Anan-led Tck Tck Tck Campaign, which is fighting to demand climate justice from world leaders at December's UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen. Climate change is, quite obviously, one of our world's most critical problems, and this collaboration is to serve as a musical petition to world leaders to act on the issue. The song features RCRD LBL friends and fam Theophilus London,Freeland, Amadou & Mariam, Dan Black,Mark Ronson, Miike Snow, and more, and is available for free from the organization's website, where each download will be considered a petition signature. Not a whole lot of effort to help a very worthy cause.
Time to make room for another European heavy house duo–Mustard Pimp, two former French metalheads, are Dim Mak's newest additions; their single "Cherry" was released just yesterday through us here at ye oldeRCRD LBL. Kali from Steed Lord features on the hook, though her wail is cut up to a point where we can't make out a word of it. Still pairs nicely with the Jock Jams synths and propulsive rave tempos. MPfreeage below.
X-Wife fashion themselves as the Portuguese LCD Soundsystem, which is to say that they are thinner and slightly more lyric-poor than Murphy's crew, to a no less beguiling extent. Their latest Are You Ready For The Blackout? LP isn't out in the States, but first single "On The Radio" is available below.
We're looking for an excellent content management intern here at RCRD LBL.
Requirements include: fluency in photoshop/design, content management systems and of course, blogging. We need someone who we can count on to make things happen and won't have to micromanage. Enthusiasm for online media and interest in the sort of music we release/blog about are both big pluses.
Applicants must be hyper organized, able to work 15-20 hours/week and based in NYC area.
You will be working direct with our roster of artists, partner labels and editors, as well as our current production team, so being on point is a must.
If you're interested, hit up info at rcrdlbl.com with "Internship" in the subject line. No need for a resume, just send us a few paragraphs about yourself and why you'd kill it.
On September 5th our partners at Dim Mak launch a new party at Santos in New York called Cloak & Dagger. They're flying out some of LA's best for the kickoff, including a few secret guests who will be in town for Electric Zoo. We're giving away two pairs of tickets in addition to some tees from the Dim Mak collection, so if you'd like a shot at those email contests@rcrdlbl.com with the subject "CLOAK & DAGGER." We'll select two winners at random. For those that can't make it and just want some music, below is a new song from party participant Jason Stewart aka Them Jeans. Full flyer with all the info after the jump.
It's been some time coming, but we finally have a winner for the Daniel Merriweather "Change" remix contest. Congratulations to Red Light District, their mix was personally selected by Daniel and Mark as the winner, and will subsequently be featured here on our homepage for the duration of this week. Other entries can still be found here. Hit the break for a brief note from Daniel, as well as a look at the Top Five Most Downloaded that were up for selection. And a huge thanks to all those who entered, your response was truly incredible.

In terms of digging Wilco, I'm just not that guy. But, this song is easily on my top ten tunes of all time list. It's very weird to imagine this gut wrencher being performed in the afternoon sun, but like a beautiful woman, some things look and feel just as good with the lights on.
