If you've been hanging out in the American underground for a minute, you probably know the work of Mr. Jayson Green – the front man/mic-choker behind bands like Orchid, Panthers and now the hardcore outfit Violent Bullshit. You may have also seen him on my TV show OUR SHOW rating movies in burgers with Kyp Malone from TV On The Radio, but that's another thing altogether so let's get into the music.  "Getaway," a standout track from Violent Bullshit's excellent new LP Adult Problems, is punchy, spazzy and approximately 90 seconds long. I hate to get writerly about hardcore, so what I'll tell you is that you can mosh it out and jog to it and that it has some nice classic rock licks toward the end. Drink up!

The Aronow Review: March 2012

I'm coming to grips with the fact that I'm a bit of a classicist. This month's playlist is mostly straight-up rock, disco and 'alternative' rock songs from the likes of Fidlar, RCRD LBL faves Midnight Magic, The Men and Turing Machine, so it confirms this fact. It also confirms that there's a lot of rad music to be excited about right now, so tuck in your shirt (or take off your shirt) and jam out with me!

The Aronow Review: February 2012

While many of us went looking for love with baby makers from Usher/Diplo and D'Angelo, I went cruisin' for a bruisin' with lots of heavy downloads from Freshkills, Salem x Alex Empire and my favorite new rock band in NYC, Hunters. Throw in an entire LP from my homies Sleigh Bells and a neo-disco burner from Escort and it's a wrap. Here's a bunch of rad music, dead simple. Please love it.

The Aronow Review: January 2012

From the desk of RCRD LBL Creative Director Elliot Aronow

After the pills wore off and the drinks dried up, 2012 was still looking to be a promising year for yours truly. And if this first crop of tracks from the RCRD LBL stacks is any indication, it's going to be ALRIGHT, brothers + sisters. Props to Carter and the crew for tee'ing up so many rad tracks. Right now Cate Le Bon's "Puts Me To Work" is owning my stereo, but that doesn't mean there's not space for the avant-pop of Matthew Dear and the kid-friendly big-room stomp of Rusko.  A spicy mix indeed! So yeah, these are some songs I like. I hope you like them, too.

BEST OF 2011: Elliot Aronow's Picks

I'm no music critic. And so I'd like for you, my audience and friends, to think of this more as an overview of the records I enjoyed the most this year. They are not ranked in size order. They are all good. Big up to our all-star editorial team for curating all these records for me to choose from!

In 2011, the RCRD LBL gang and I got funky (Chromeo), weird (UMO), chilled-out (Real Estate), and if we played our cards right, a little romantic (Friends' excellent cover of the classic "My Boo") as we featured the hottest joints every day of the working week. I'm happy to say, I think we covered a lot of ground.

And if that wasn't a wide enough net, I also decided to throw together some big boy joints, after burners and undeniable pop hits on Spotify for y'all. Rick Ross, Chairlift, ASAP Rocky, Mr. Dream and more are represented.

That's all for now, enjoy the holidays and be sure to check out OUR SHOW, my underground variety/chat show featuring RCRD LBL homies like Das Racist, LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend, Chromeo, MNDR and more!

Blessings,

Elliot

I won't be doing my job if I didn't hit you with the most choice stuff so here goes. Below is a quick and dirty mix of my favorite songs from the now rather extensive RCRD LBL stacks. It's been a real pleasure working with all these artists and I'm damn proud to have them on our little website. As always, I hope you turn these songs up loud and hopefully get turned on to some new favorites in the process. This one is for the kids!
