If you've seen Matthew Dear perform with a full band, then you know it is truly something to behold (and if you haven't, you can catch a glimpse here). From the regal horn section to the luster of their tuxedos under dark lights to Dear's cataclysmic energy as front man, there are pieces that feel so unique and otherworldly, it's as if David Lynch orchestrated the whole thing—and that's a very, very good thing. "You Put A Smell On Me" and its haute noir feeling recalls something particularly Lynchian, but has taken on a different turn when Photocall gives it the business. What starts like an opening number at a regular burlesque club quickly turns into the perfect soundtrack for one in Twin Peaks, WA. Chill you to the bone, but still sexy as ever. Like the How To Dress Well refit we posted last month, this remix is part of Dear's Slowdance EP, which is out now on Ghostly. He is stateside for a bit before taking the summer abroad. Dates here.
PREMIERE: Donnis - Ring My Bell (feat. Dev) (prod. Syience)
.jpg)
Atlanta brave Donnis is back and has something salacious to sling. And with a name like, "Ring My Bell" what else could it be? Producer Syience has created a beat that is slinky and bell-tinged but still begs that you drop it to the floor, while Dev's sugary purr on the hook is bound to make the wanton snap right into their element. The track is the first look at Donnis' upcoming mixtape, Southern Lights, out next week and hosted by RCRD LBL longtime friend, Fool's Gold's Nick Catchdubs.

If you've been searching for pop tunes with a twist, then Kito & Reija Lee are here to answer the call. With Kito on production and Reija Lee on lead vox, the duo have crafted something bass-heavy with a soft touch. "This City" is straight forward dubstep with a few surprises, including what sounds like someone using a theremin to emulate a fire alarm. The remix by Asa & KOAN Sound smooths it out a bit—recalling Nicki Minaj's drum & bass ballad, "Save Me"—but also seems to have hit the original with a hammer and sprinkled the pieces back into the track. Kito & Reija Lee's Sweet Talk EP is out now on Mad Decent.

It seems that every two weeks or so I find it absolutely necessary to namedrop electronic music leader Giorgio Moroder. But if you can recall from when we dropped the track, "Love Duet" last year, I'm not the only one who understand the man's reign over so many genres. Under the name Mobroder, buddies Spank Rock, Blu Jemz and Hoff have crafted an entire project recalling the Scarface-scorer's magic wand over our psyches. The final product is a combination of music and skits based on Cerrone's Love In C Minor with their friends Amanda Blank, Maluca and Eli Escobar, among others, on dialogue duty. There are a few remixes, too, including this spacey Miami Vice-style piece, "Rush", refit by Nile Delta. You can grab the entire epic over at Mobroder's site. Watch the leather!

PREMIERE: Rachel Goodrich - Light Bulb (ANR Remix)

Rachel Goodrich's "Light Bulb" is a ukulele-and-kazoo-tinged folksy number, replete with handclaps and foot stomps. She's originally from Miami and the shared hometown led her to computer poppers Awesome New Republic aka ANR, who took her track for a spin. They've flipped her original into a prom night jam—dancefloor-primed, but lighthearted, as it retains Goodrich's sense of whimsy. Download here and peep the original on Rachel Goodrich's self-titled album out now.

Atlanta, Georgia is prime breeding ground for some of our favorite music, from the Prince-tinged stylings of The-Dream to the choppy kablows of Waka Flocka Flame, but that's not where we draw the line for the Peach State's offerings. Enter The Coathangers: An all-grrl wrecking crew rooted in ATL. Their track "Hurricane" is wild wails, post-punk guitars and incessant percussion—the kind of thing that anyone who grew up on Delta 5, The Slits and The Runaways wants in daily doses. The track is so heavy in its elements that the result almost embodies its title. Their album Larceny & Old Lace (named after an episode of The Golden Girls) is out June 7 on Suicide Squeeze.
PREMIERE: Nik Freitas - Saturday Night Underwater

Nik Freitas has been a member of Conor Oberst's Mystic Valley Band and part of Broken Bells' touring ensemble, but now he has crafted his an album of all his own work, Saturday Night Underwater. And when we say, "crafted an album of all his own work," we mean he wrote, produced and performed the record all on himself—and it's quite fine. The title track is a rhodes-y lowkey piece with sweet guitar strums and clear nods to his influences from the '70s. For more, the album drops June 7 on Little Record Company. He'll be on the road with The Submarines starting tonight in Costa Mesa before joining An Horse in New York on April 26.
