I first started writing with the Strange Boys in 06 and first met the fellas not long after when I was told while at my job that "there are a bunch of teenage boys here to see you."  The Strange Boys dropped off a CDR of songs that day, some of which have been refined for their debut LP on In the Red The Strange Boys...And Girls Club.  The new album is full of bluesy, rock, punk, country music, yelped by dudes who don't sound like they have enough years under their collective belts to possibly conjure up that much passion.  "Heard You Wanna Beat Me Up," is a classic 'I did somethin I shouldn't" song about violence, lust and aggression - fitting for four young dudes from Texas.  In June the fellas are embarking on a massive tour with Mika Miko, check their space for dates.

Sounds Like: The Soledad Brothers, Mika Miko, the White Stripes

VIDEO THRWBCK: The Screamers - Vertigo (1977)

The Screamers never released a proper LP, just bootlegs of demos and live performances, and this video looks like it was recorded for public access - but you get the idea. Abandoning electric guitars and proving that keyboards can be just as abrasive and aggressive as LA punk rock wanted to be, the Screamers knew how to put on a show and how to pen some truly catchy tunes, like this here "Vertigo." The Screamers are one of those "lost bands" from the first wave of LA punk rock, but no one ever looked better in a bow tie and braces than front man Tomata du Plenty.

EXCLUSIVE NEW DOWNLOAD: Radio Moscow - No Jane + Broke Down

It's been just a year since Radio Moscow released their Dan Auerbach-produced debut, and in that time RM brain trust Parker Griggs toured for a full year, expanding the wah-wahs, the howls and willingness to go deeper into the psychedelic terrain.  Like Peter Green fronting the Flower Travellin' Band, Radio Moscow's second album Brain Cycles (out on Alive Records on April 14th) is as full of blues, soul and psych experimentation as Richie Havens' set at Woodstock.  Today RCRD LBL previews "No Jane," a five minute mind-bending epic of shouts, growls, extreme shredding and the kind of drumming that would've made mud-covered hippies freak the fuck out.  Grab these two and let your brain ride the wave, man.

Sounds Like: Annihilation Time, Dan Auerbach, Buffalo Killers, Flower Travellin' Band

DOWNLOAD: Green Go - Black Rice (Women Remix) + This Sentence Will Ruin/Save Your Life (Born Ruffians Remix)

Ready for some Canadian on Canadian action?  Well, look no further than these two jams from Green Go - taking undeniable songs from Women and Born Ruffians and adding just enough pizzaz to re-wrap the tunes with their patented pounding synth and foot stomping enthusiasm.  With Women's "Black Rice," Green Go take out the crackle and hiss and add layer upon layer of harmony and synth explosions, taking it to Panda Bear heights of lovely.  And while you might think it's impossible to make the Born Ruffians' "This Sentence Will Ruin/Save Your Life," more dancey, Green Go prove you wrong by adding more disco drums, more handclaps and more freak-outability then seemed possible in a 3 minute song.  Look out for Green Go's debut LP in April.

Sounds Like: Women, Born Ruffians, Four Tet, Panda Bear

DOWNLOAD: The Brothers Movement - Blind

Since forming in 07, The Brothers Movement has opened for the Jesus & Mary Chain, BRMC, Primal Scream, Ian Brown, MC5, Sonic Youth and Brian Jonestown Massacre.  Not too shabby for 5 dudes from Dublin.  Combining the epic sonic build of classic shoegaze with the chugging chorus of straight up arena rock and the reedy confidence of vintage Brit Pop, the Brothers Movement are boldly stepping into Richard Ashcroft and Co.'s battered trainers.  09 feels like a year ripe for some Brit Pop re-invention - count the Brothers Movement among the leaders of the march.

Sounds Like: The Verve, Glasvegas, The Morning After Girls, Black Angels

There is nothing simple about creating perfect pop gems, but few make it seem as effortless as Cardiff's Innercity Pirates.  Looking for a band with songs you can shout along to?  Whistle along with?  Dance to?  Pogo to?  Innercity Pirates have you covered.  Creating witty no-brainer music, these deceptively simple, tinny pop songs have charming layers to uncover with every listen.  As you can tell from the above video for "Cockney Sparra," the band are cute as buttons and if you could shrink down any band to carry around in your pocket this Spring, Innercity Pirates are the irresistible choice.

Sounds Like: Shout Out Louds, Peter, Bjorn & John, the Concretes, Elvis Costello, the Chalets

It takes some balls to go over 1 minute in a tune before the rest of the band kicks in, but on the Nacional's "On TV" it works to excellent effect; wondering, waiting, anticipation growing as singer Jamie Hamilton talks about "bleeding on TV."  When it does kick in it's all spiky cheeky angular guitar riffs that you can picture Ian Curtis jerking to and cheerfully glum delivery that sounds like it could have been produced decades ago and yet somehow sounds decidedly 'now.'  "Yorkshire," cements the fact that this Glasgow-based quintet know that the best way around a sulky pop song is through undeniably dance-inducing riffs and if the UK reviews are to be believed, live this song charms the pants off every filly and fella in the room.

Sounds like: The Wedding Present, the Cribs, Maximo Park

Hailing from Liverpool, the Hot Melts storm into Austin with the goal of having everyone seeing them at least once.  If shows and parties don't do the trick, the recently-signed-to-Epitaph Hot Melts are ready to take it to the streets busking for the masses, so if you happen to see four British-looking dudes churning out pitch-perfect pop songs with chugging riffs, new wave tendencies and soaringly snotty vocals, go introduce yourself.  After a stint opening up for the Hold Steady and an opening slot in Europe with Eagles of Death Metal following their turn at SXSW, who knows when you'll get to be up close and personal with these blokes again.  Grab "I Wish I Had Never Been In Love" to get a saccharine shot through the heart.
