About Me
Associate Editor of RCRDLBL.com, purveyor of eternal amazingness

Surprise! After working for RCRD LBL since before the site’s launch date in November of last year, it’s with heavy dancing shoes that I’m relinquishing my position as Associate Editor to go be the Marketing Specialist for Neighborhoodies.com. Obviously, I'll always look back fondly upon my months spent here blogging about the best new bands around, even when I’m like, 45 and at Interpol’s 25th anniversary reunion show at the New Madison Square Garden.
But never fear, RCRD LBL’s staffers will soldier on without me, so keep a look out for new editors and even more great music in the future. As a sort of parting gift, I’ve compiled a little mix of some of my favorite tracks that I’ve had the pleasure of sharing with you guys since I started here.
It’s been real!
xoxo Cameron

The Paper Bag RCRD LBL blog has some awesome video footage of Slim Twig’s very first US live appearance ever, at the Pitchfork Festival afterparty last weekend at the Empty Bottle in Chicago. Slim’s wonderful Surfer Rosa stylings are in full effect in the clip, so keep an ear out for ‘80s alt. nation influences. Head on to the PBR blog for more info:

We’ve seen the name Radical Sons splashed all over the Internet lately, so we thought we’d investigate and take a closer look. What we found were four young men from St. Louis, writing garage-pop songs that sounded like Television, The Modern Lovers and, we suppose by default, a grittier, realer version of the Strokes. As with all bands we're really blown away by, we decided to sign them to RCRD LBL, and we couldn't be happier with our Awesome Band Radar... We rushed to get two exclusive tracks to release: “Jungle” and the ambitious “Brother Speed”, which sounds like a version of “Rebel Rebel” by David Bowie ignited by the angst of being young and American. Thanks Internet, you’ve done it again.
Sounds like: The Modern Lovers, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Strokes

Artanker Convoy has been making electro-tinged free jazz since the early 2000s, when a Brazilian dancer asked them to compose a piece for one of her performances. Brooklyn-based indie label The Social Registry (home of bands like Growing and Blood on the Wall) asked them to release a 12” in 2002 and the rest is history—they’ve been recording with them ever since. The track we’re releasing today, “Erratique”, is an instrumental, laid-back song, reminiscent of epic experimental jazz acts like Sun Ra. Check it out below!
Sounds like: Sun Ra, Yo La Tengo

Surprisingly, it's taken us this long to THRWBCK to the Smiths, who are categorically the band we refer to as "the best ever" when we are posed with such a ridiculous questions as "who is the best band ever?" Our favorite Smiths album varies from hourly, but lately it's been Strangeways Here We Come, their 1987 swan song, which is by far their most realized and complete LP (and Morrissey's favorite, legend has it). If you've ever not wanted to ride your bike through a foggy Manchester morning, this video will change that.

We have a truckload of tracks from DC-based hip hop producer Tittsworth to round off the day, including two versions of his new single, “Broke Ass Nigga”. Like a mix between the sizzurped-up crunk of Three 6 Mafia and the hip-pop of Kanye West, Tittsworth is rap music you can really dance to, which might be one of our favorite genres of music ever. Makes us long for the ‘80s, actually (but what doesn’t). We could rave about each track (most of them from Tittsworth’s new album Twelve Steps out now on Plant Music) but you might as well savor them yourself. Enjoy!

If you don’t have any plans tomorrow night (and frankly, even if you do) we highly recommend checking out the Eté D’Amour residency at Santos’ Party House—Institubes are hosting the night (as part of Bobmo and Jean Nipon’s US tour). Special guest Curses! will be performing, so make sure to get there in time to check out his rabid death disco up close and personal.

The Downtown RCRD LBL blog and The Guide (The L.A. Times’ pop culture blog) have some first-person accounts from Cold War Kids’ secret show at L.A.’s R Bar last week. It looked like a ramblin’ good time, and in our own experience, packed, sweaty, incredibly-over-capacity shows make for the most memorable performances, so we can only imagine what the show was like. Maybe the band will whip up something special in NYC for their new album? We await, impatiently…
