- Bio: With their debut single “Georgia” already running laps around almost every other pop song released this year, London-based quartet Yuck have gotten their 2010 off to a running start. The coming months however, will provide yet another tantalising glimpse of what they have up their collective sleeve, as they unveil a brand new track, “Suicide Policeman”, and play a slew of dates, including festival shows and supports with the storied likes of Best Coast, Smith Westerns and even Dinosaur Jr and Built to Spill.
If “Georgia” was a glorious burst of heart swelling, raggedly triumphal pop, all unabashed of sentiment and swoonsome of harmony, “Suicide Policeman” is its somewhat sadder, more wistful cousin; world-weary, a little heartsick perhaps, but no less beautiful and compelling for it, as gently strummed chords, trumpet interludes and singer Daniel Blumberg’s repeated exhortations of “I just want to let you know/ I could be your suicide policeman” conspire to create one of the oddest yet simultaneously affecting love songs to date.
It’s a side of the band that audiences may not have caught from seeing their electric live shows, which has seen them support the likes of Dum Dum Girls and Times New Viking around the UK. The following months will see even more of the population falling under the band’s spell, as they play at a host of summer festivals including Camden Crawl, Dot to Dot, Latitude and Field Day, and support like-minded contemporaries such as Best Coast, Japandroids, Avi Buffalo and Smith Westerns – not to mention those forefathers of alt.rock, Dinosaur Jr and Built to Spill, in what is sure to be a monumental show at Shepherds Bush Empire on May 18.
