- Bio: Young Empires (www.youngempires.com) are a Canadian music group that NME Magazine compared to the likes of The Killers, Arcade Fire, Yeasayer, The Rapture, and Foals. Defined by swirling synthesizer tones, soulful bass grooves, and funky guitar rhythms, Young Empires deliver dance tracks full of swagger, sexuality, and a little angst. Their track “Glory of the Night” will be featured on Kitsune’s Maison Compilation 10. In 2010, Young Empires performed at international showcases in London, New York, Bogota, and Toronto, and supported acts such as Jamiroquai, Dragonette, Sleigh Bells, Jamaica, We Have Band, !!! (Chk Chk Chk).
-“The Toronto band are master weavers of our disparate indie threads, forging a fine tapestry of future disco.”
NME Magazine
-“This Toronto trio love disco, Peruvian pan flutes, and tropical beats. Funnily enough, we do to! While this track, with its glossy production and funked up rhythms, reminds us of the Rapture’s dance-ready grooves, other songs on their Myspace wouldn’t seem out of place on a Big Pink album. They’re unsigned for now, but we’re sure their bachelorhood won’t last long. They’re too good.”
NYLON Magazine
-“Young Empires are making genre defiant tracks that sprawl over chillwave, pop, tropical, and disco-punk.”
Dazed and Confused Magazine
-“Rapidly gaining publicity for exciting online demos which sound like MGMT covering Duran Duran, the Canadian trio prove that there is really substance behind the hype on their first British tour”.
