  • Bio: Wendy James the singer from Transvision Vamp is now the writer, singer and producer for WENDY JAMES.
Wendy had her first hit with Transvision Vamp at the age of sixteen.
Since Transvision Vamp’s success through the early 90’s which saw Wendy rise to fame throughout her teenage years, she has created a following that is unfalteringly loyal and always needing more of her music and personality. Transvision Vamp had worldwide Number One hits at a time when millions of sales earned you that position. They released 3 albums in total, the first one “Pop Art” entered the UK charts at NO.4, the second “Velveteen” at NO.1 in 10 countries becoming the strongest in EUR, the third “Little Magnets Versus The Bubble Of Babble” being the strongest in USA.
When Transvision Vamp decided to end their career Wendy successfully moved straight into a collaboration with Elvis Costello, singing an album of songs he wrote for her “Now Ain’t The Time For Your Tears”. Working with musicians from Bob Dylans’ band, Van Morrisons’ band and some of the members of Elvis Costello And The Attractions, the record was produced by Chris Kimsey - producer of the Rolling Stones. But on the eve of the world-wide campaign to promote the record for Geffen Records, according to her instinct, instead of promoting Elvis for the scheduled year ahead, she instead built a studio in London and started to produce and write her own material. She also moved to NYC.

She has already released two ‘solo’ records, Racine No.1 and RACINE 2, both greeted with consistently good reviews across the world, but released only through limited digital avenues and collector item CD sales. Along side these releases she formed her band around her and they have toured continuously across Europe and the coasts of America, each time playing to larger and more fanatic crowds.. A whole new audience has been formed for WENDY JAMES, comprising of the most grass-roots, cutting edge indie scenes around the world, and now, crossing over into the mainstream. Whilst Transvision Vamp maintains it’s iconic moment in ‘Brit-Pop’ Wendy has relentlessly pursued a modern career, stating that she always felt even larger world-wide success would be hers with material she wrote herself, and rather than look backwards sentimentally she has forged forward with her abilities and songwriting skills. She has built it up in the most organic of ways and consequently the following is devoted. In relation to this she has also a burgeoning merchandising market, having collaborated with the Tshirt designer Elena Gallen on the only official tshirt to be sold, and whether directly purchased on the road, or simply through website sales they have made a sought after and collected fashion item that has been reviewed in style magazines around the world and is now stocked in select boutiques across the planet in places as wide reaching as Tokyo, Paris, NYC, LA, Berlin and Barcelona.

New York magazine wrote simply about RACINE 2 “Thank God For Wendy James – The First Record We Have Loved In Months”.
