Bio: The musical evolution of what has become Sub Rosa, actually began in early 2001, when Nick Faiella and Adam Lewis met through a mutual friend in Southern California. Neither of them being from there, but through a fortunate series of events, found themselves in the same place at the same time. The two quickly formed a friendship based on the brief and intermittent interactions their lives allowed. Over the coming years, they pursued other musical projects while keeping in touch, and attending each other's gigs whenever possible. Now, let's skip ahead to late 2006...
After Faiella and Lewis had left their respective groups, they came together this time in Los Angeles. They would then nurture a solid bond, based on a mutual love for post-punk and rock bands of the early 90's: from Nirvana to Echo and the Bunnymen, as well as a similarly-minded vision of where this would lead. The two members found even more parallels, in that neither did anything halfhearted-- always pushing everything as far as it could be pushed, each bringing something unique to the equation and drawing from the other equally.
By mid 2007, they had formed Sub Rosa, recording a three-song demo, and finally performing live. After playing numerous local shows throughout L.A., as well as some short tours, Sub Rosa went into the studio again with longtime friend, manager Aaron Rubin, this time intent on making a record. What would result from the unconfined, no filter atmosphere created in the studio, is 'Here In Filth', an ambitious record full of sing-along melodies over distorted guitars and the raw, kinetic feel of their rock n' roll predecessors. Lyrically written from experience, be it their own or those closest to them, their confessional style of writing tells the tales of where they've been, and what they've seen. It echoes their own unravelings and triumphs, as well as those who came before them. With a debut full-length album in their pocket, Sub Rosa relocated to New York City where they immediately began playing countless shows.
The true backstory of Sub Rosa is one of taking only the bare bones and saying goodbye to the rest. Going through life finding what it is one wants. Losing it and finding it all over again. Here's to what the future holds... (less)
