Bio: The Buttercream Gang are multi-instrumentalists Pete Davies, Bobby Renz and Robinson Kuntz. They have been around the San Francisco Bay Area since 2006, playing shows that are a blend of the familiar and the unpredictable.
Their second album, Drumalley, serves as a reminder to fans and first time listeners alike that the Buttercream Gang is not content to stand still, creatively or physically. Moving beyond the rock/post-punk tone of their first album, the Buttercream Gang have developed a new vocabulary of danceable beats, layering African and Latin rhythms with psychedelic 60’s pop and rock. The lively percussion laced with guitar and saxophone are greatly complemented by forthright and candid (sometime brutally so) lyrics. They are influenced by Fela Kuti, Mulatu Astatqe, and The Clash, but it seems a disservice to define them by their influences. Their songs are varied enough to forget about comparisons; the sound they create has become their own.
