“…is a giant dark cloud that encompasses everything from late-‘70’s post-punk to avant-garde electronics to industrial noir, somehow checking all those milestones without losing itself in any put-on nostalgia trips”
-Aversion
“…have forged a unique world that isn’t for everyone, though a star gate for any fan of Eno, Throbbing Gristle, morbid fantasies, and the hours long after the sun goes down. Lay down your psychic noise”
-Parasites and Sycophants
“…like Vangelis Papathanassiou’s Blade Runner score and Tangerine Dream albums, The Bodies Obtained is a listening experience not unlike traveling through an alien landscape: strange and at times incredible”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Ladies and gentlemen, the schizophrenic sounds of The Bodies Obtained have returned. With their first two opuses, 2008’s From The Top Of My Tree and 2009’s Dead Plans, the mysterious Detroit-based project set the bar for underground experimental music going into a new decade—but with their third release in as many years, I Cry When You Cry, the band have matched their adept musical skills with their undeniable creativity. The elements of the first two records are all there: the insightful lyrics, the ethereal nature of musical touchstones such as Fad Gadget, early PiL and Suicide, and a veritable bevy of synths programmed to simultaneously engage your ear and destroy the very essence of what you thought was possible in the realm of experimental electronica.
Not that it is all keyboard fun and robot games: the very human core that makes The Bodies Obtained so relatable is stronger than ever. Tracks such as “Pandemic, bleed emotion with a resounding chorus of “Is there anyone you hate more than me.”
On “In The Land of Make Believe,” an ambient ballad constructed around the plaintive tones of one of The Bodies Obtained’s many synths, the vocals mimic the music’s general tonalities until the whole piece stretches out to a droning finish.
Conversely other tracks like I Cry’s opener “Into the Light” reflect a different side of The Bodies Obtained that has yet to be seen—if not exactly “pop,” than a definite upbeat dance cut that will have diehard The Bodies Obtained fans quizzically scratching their heads while shuffling their feet. I Cry’s closer, the dark wave-tinted “End of a Dreams,” comes off as “Into the Light’s” evil twin brother, up-tempo and charging, but casting a sinister shadow on the tail end of the album.
I Cry When You Cry will see wide release on Tuesday, August 24th via Finding You Attractive.
