Bio: Sometimes it takes a band with completely different pasts to create brilliant music for the future. Such is the case with Sunny Day Sets Fire ... (more)
whose various members come from such lands as Italy, Hong Kong, the UK and Canada. With such varied backgrounds, it makes sense that the now London-based four-piece plays a refreshing take on psychedelic and experimental pop, the kind that is colorful, inventive and yet still catchy enough for everyone to enjoy. Even though they grew up thousands of miles apart the four share a love for music.
Lead singer and songwriters Onyee and Mauro met while working as ushers at their local cinema and began writing songs together, joined later by Max, Ed and Matthew. By the middle of 2005 the band had begun to find their direction, committed to their twisted-pop agenda and churning out songs that reverberated with the spirit of the Flaming Lips or Architecture in Helsinki.
With an eye firmly focused on the soaring beauty of classic pop moments, the trio set to work coming up with a collection of tracks that reflected their shared loves 60s psych, the Beach Boys, classic Sun rock n roll and far beyond.
The band signed to American indie label IAMSOUND Records in the summer of 2006, releasing their four-song Brainless EP later that year. They will be releasing a remix EP in early 2008 to help build excitement for their forthcoming album in mid-2008. The EP features remixes by CSS, XXXChange from Spank Rock, The Cool Kids and Mad Decent/Diplo. Look for Sunny Day Sets Fire to tour in 2008 and bring their summery, psychedelic sounds to American shores.
