  • Bio: A Parisian quintet boosted by Madchester energy SHIT BROWNE shouts urban, joyful and poetic pop music for all. Consisting brothers Sebi Browne (vocals) and Benjamin Browne (Bass), joined by Denis Browne Jr, Hadrien Browne, and Tigrou Browne, the SHIT BROWNE experience is set to start feet moving on a thoroughly modern level with its own revamped twist on an otherwise classic genre for the 21st Century.

Benjamin and Sebi were involved in the underground life of their hometown Dijon before moving to Paris – Ben worked at hip hop and indie distributor Chronowax and Sebi recently swapped writing for rhythm when he left his day job as a music journalist in another life for playing music.

The two met fellow band members at cool Parisian night Le Motel, where they all spent regular ‘down-time’ from hectic day jobs. Hadrien is a live and studio sound engineer for the Bertrand Buraglat’s Tricatel label and also played in the ephemeral French buzz-band Dorian Pimpernel. Tigrou’s excellent DJ skills brought him up from the South of France. And Denis? Well, he’s just Denis but this is truly something in itself.

After the release of two critically acclaimed singles, in France (‘DMD’ in 2008, remixed by Mondkopf, and ‘Sweetback’ in 2009, remixed by David Carretta), - SHIT BROWNE recorded their first album during summer 2009 between different studios in Paris and friends’ places. Like some high-powered energy drink, you can hear a real flavour of independence in the melt of multiple sounds that forge ‘Every Single Penny Will Be Reinvested In The Party’. Finding difficult to explain what this pop/club crossover is made of – but oozing confidence about exactly how to reach it – the band produced and mixed all of the songs themselves.

It’s maybe this authenticity and simple truth that gives the album this manic, ecstatic feeling. From the hypnotic ‘Electronics’ to the explosive ‘Winter Collection’ SHIT BROWNE jumps on its own inspiration and reboots itself at will as electric or electronic.

By remembering the proud times of universal partying - Detroit, Chicago, Manchester – the five Brownes link with the epic daily battle of Rock against depression and resignation.

But let everything be clear: this is not about the past. This is just about the will of doing something of their own to make people lift their hands and close their eyes. No bitterness just acidulation. (less)
