  • Bio: Seymour Bits is one of the many guises of Bas Bron.
Amsterdam born Bas Bron is a multi-talented producer/entertainer. Winner of many, many awards like the MTV Europe and Mobo-Award, as producer of Dutch electro-rap-crew De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig (DJVT). DJVT (or Youth Of Today) are a groundbreaking crew that have inspired a whole new wave of electro-funk groups in Europe and beyond (you can hear Bas beats and influence on many records throughout the world. The latest notch on his sleeve is Die Antwoord, who are featured on this album and have had a lot of help from Bas with the recording of their album). Bas is also part of Comtron, in the underground electro-world a well respected brand name. Comtron has supported Kraftwerk on their last European tour.
Bas is often referred to as the European answer to Prince and or Dam Funk, he plays an endless string of instruments and sings, moans and croons like true Funkateer.

His alias Seymour Bits is actually called Seymour Jackson….

It was the day before Christmas 2001 when 23 year old computer programmer Seymour Jackson found out that writing business-analysis software was not what he wanted from life. Going back to Zanzibar to pursue his childhood dream of making electronic funk music, on the other hand, was. Seymour Bits rocks a brand of electronic funk music from a period in the 80s that never existed. Do you remember The Time? They were the other band in Purple Rain, the only band Prince was ever afraid of. OK now imagine them jamming with Thomas Dolby and Dopplereffekt.

Blending not only electro and funk, Seymour Bits has the ability to compose catchy songs with a distinct beginning and end. Combined with some thrilling solos and sexy vocals he is, even in these electro–packed days, still very much ahead of his time….which leads to the question ‘is he from our time or our world even’?

Seymour Bits releases his second solo-album on September 17th on Magnetron Music. The self titled album is distinctly more dancefloor based, but is never loosing site of his roots in 70’s and 80’s electro-funk, the album also showcases the effect that years of clubbing has had on Mr. Bits.
Even though this album is more focused on the dancefloor than it’s predecessor Booty Pop Phantom, Seymour still writes beautiful songs and knows how to make them sound fresh. (less)
