  • Bio: LA-based electronic musician, multimedia artist and mad scientist
collector Steve Nalepa combines deep dub bass, glitchy breaks,
bioacoustic atmospheres and beautiful sinewave melodies to create his patented brand of ambient glitch dub. Nalepa has produced tracks with such legends as Bill Laswell and Pharoah Sanders, performed with the LA Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall, and shared the stage with some of the most revered electronic musicians and video artists in the world. Nalepa is one of 100 artists featured in Visionaire 53: Sound, his song Flatlands joining original pieces from David Byrne, Lalo Schifrin, Danger Mouse, U2, Yoko Ono and more on five 12” vinyl record picture discs packaged with a portable record player inside a
    specially produced domed case.

Nalepa was born and raised in Chicago. His mother worked for a laser
company and his father arrested Abbie Hoffman.  Nalepa began taking
organ lessons at age five.  He studied mathematics and played football at Yale, then decided to pursue music instead of Wall Street. He moved to LA and sustained himself working as a paranormal news researcher, costumed children's party entertainer and high school math teacher, all the while collecting vintage synthesizers and pedals. He launched the art book publishing company Dilettante Press, producing three award-winning books before returning his focus to music completely, inspired by new music software.

1320 Records released his triple album Flatlands in May, the original
compositions accompanied by a collection of music videos and remixes by an all-star cast of luminaries including The Glitch Mob, Deru and Nosaj Thing. Nalepa is considered a key node in the West Coast audiovisual scene, known for his vast and eclectic array of artistic collaborators, cultivated through years of producing multimedia events. When he’s not in the lab or rocking international dancefloors together with Tokyo-based MattB as Bass Science, Nalepa can be found teaching Ableton Live, ProTools and Reason to the students in his Principles of Music Technology classes at Chapman University Conservatory of Music.
