- Bio: Here comes the new MUNK E.P. After more than two years Mathias Modica – creater of GOMMA records along with Jonas Telonius Imbery and man of MUNK comes back with a 5 track EP.
And it seems this release could be big. The single LA MUSICA was pre-released in june and had euphoric reactions. Erol Alkan, DJ Chloe, Ellen Alien, Annie Mac, Tim Sweeney and even Mark Ronson are playing it. Busy P used it for his first Mix CD and Kitsune, Bugged Out, Hed Kandi will re-release this little italo beach house anthem on their upcoming compilations. (..and even Karl Lagerfeld wanted the song in the soundtrack for his Chanel - movie “Remember Now”.)
The MONDO VAGABONDO E.P. is a very sunny and partly melancholic dance record.
Housemusic and Digital Funk with influences from Psychadelic Rock, Italo Pop, Piano disco and even French chansons.… a mix of electronic afro percussions, sweet Balearic melodies, big chords, screaming organs, irresistible bass lines. Lyrics in English, Italian, French, German.
Performed by Parisian singer Clara Cometti – part of Koko from Napoo, Munich underground disco queen Francy Goertz and Modica himself.
This extravagant mix of sounds and languages that makes Munk songs so special and creates the unique freshness of this E.P. is probably the result of Mathias Modica’s vagabond lifestyle: After having co -created Gomma Records in Munich he left the town three years ago. First he just travelled as a DJ around the world. Then he moved to Rome and now is living between Marseille and Berlin.
Mathias – who is the son of a German avant-garde music composer and an Italian singer - plays all instruments himself: pianos, keys, bass, guitar, drums, xylophones… as he did on the previous Munk releases. You might remember Kick out the chairs! the Munk cooperation with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem in 2005. Followed by “Life Fast Die Old” with Asia Argento (2007), “Ce Kul” with DJ Chloe (2006) and “Disco Clown” – featuring Midnight Mike aka Micky Moonlight – now signed to Ed Banger records.
Besides doing his own music - last year Mathias produced German Indie superstars Die Sterne and music for Boy Codax – the upcoming solo project of Nick MacCarthy of Franz Ferdinand. (less)
